Update: The game has now appeared on Steam, complete with screenshots! Here's more about it:

"The player traverses the screen horizontally to take down enemies in this beloved genre. Experience the same simple and intuitive gameplay, with controls and balance refined for the modern era. The carefully crafted experience, supervised by staff with experience on Arc System Works fighting game titles, makes it easy for new players to get engrossed right away.

"The combat requires adaptation and variety, more than a simple button-masher. Delve into the strategy by learning enemy patterns and finding the most effective attack timings. Pick up weapons scattered throughout the stages and make the most of the area gimmicks to seize the upperhand in battle!"

Original story: Anyone for a new Double Dragon game? It's been announced in the latest edition of Famitsu that Double Dragon Revive is officially in the works, and it's scheduled to hit Xbox One, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S in 2025.

Details are thin on the ground right now, but you can see an early glimpse of the game in the screenshot below:

As mentioned by Gematsu, Double Dragon Revive will apparently "reproduce the thrill of old school side-scrolling action games" while also integrating updated controls and difficulty settings. The game is being developed by Arc System Works, which previously brought Double Dragon IV to Xbox One back in April of 2020. The studio has also recently delivered the likes of Guilty Gear Strive, BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle Special Edition and Dragon Ball Fighterz on Xbox.

Stay tuned for more details on this one - hopefully we'll get more information before the end of the year.
