It's all been happening pretty fast, but 7 Days To Die 1.0 is now available on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S! This is a brand-new version of the game for consoles that's significantly improved compared to the Xbox One release.
As we've mentioned before, the 2016 edition of 7 Days To Die for Xbox was a stripped down experience, as it stopped getting updates a year later. However, with the new 1.0 release, the developer is attempting to "keep parity" with PC:
"We made the decision early on to focus on a ‘new’ version of the game that is unified with our PC version, and our efforts to update the game post-launch will be entirely focused on that version."
It's still very early days for 7 Days To Die 1.0 on Xbox, but the initial reviews on the Xbox Store are extremely positive! As things stand, the game has a 4.6/5 rating on the US version of the store, and 4.9/5 in the UK.
We all know that the Xbox Store isn't always the best place to get your reviews from, but clearly there's a lot of love for 7 Days To Die 1.0 from buyers so far. Here are a couple of the more detailed impressions we've spotted:
Xbox Store Review: "Graphics are great, lots more fighting styles and a more interactive environment. Different creatures to fight. Whats not to like? So far I have found nothing to be disappointed with. There is so much more depth to this game. The trader jobs are a fantastic addition. This rocks. Worth the wait."
Xbox Store Review: "Runs great on the Series X. Massive improvement and a huge win for console. Does have KB&M. Sound design is awesome. So many QoL improvements if you're upgrading from the old version. A few minor hiccups in frame rate and lighting, nothing that can't be ironed out in a patch. Overall it runs smooth, so much smoother than I figured day 1 would. Happy for The Fun Pimps and the community. Worth every penny."
Despite the many positives, we're also seeing some grumbles about the Xbox Series S version. Not only does the frame rate appear to struggle more on Microsoft's lesser-powered console, but it also only allows players to host two-player online games. If you want four players, you need someone with a Series X to host it instead:
The other thing to be aware of is that certain features are missing from the Xbox version for now. This includes crossplay support and randomly generated maps. Here's how the team describes it in their FAQ:
"Console Edition will have some limitations, including:
- Random Gen: The Console Edition will launch with a collection of pregenerated maps and the Navezgane experience. However, Random Gen will come in a patch soon after launch.
- Level/Prefab Editor and World Editor: The console edition will not launch with the level or world editor..
- Internet Connection/Server Connection: At launch, the console edition will be restricted to peer-to-peer games on the same platform. As mentioned in the Crossplay section above, we intend to release Crossplay in Update 1, barring any certification requirements or technical hurdles.
Overall though, it's a positive start for 7 Days To Die 1.0 on Xbox, and keep in mind that if you owned the previous version for Xbox One, you get a 25% discount for the next 30 days. For everyone else, the game is available on the Xbox Store right now for £37.49 / $44.99. If you've bought it, tell us what you think in the comments!
Will you be picking up the 1.0 version of 7 Days To Die on Xbox? Do you enjoy the PC version? Let us know!

@FraserG small FYI. I thought “5-star reviews” was bad based off the headline as games are usually a 10 point scale. Almost skipped.
@themightyant Usually if it's based on "stars", they stick to the five-point scale (like Windows Central, GamesRadar, etc).
The rest of us go for the 10-point scale but stay away from using a star rating
Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice shame on me.
Clear the publishers feel they need to buy publicity after what they did though, after the sheer volume of empty "stories" here.
@avoidercat You mean on Pure Xbox? Nobody's bought anything, I don't even know who's handling the game's PR.
We're giving it attention because this new version for Xbox is getting serious interest online at the moment.
I bought it. I'm loving it. It has tons of content to keep you busy.
@FraserG yeah you just publish repeat stories as a community service huh? Just for some not others just because? Of course you are never influenced by publishers. Lol.
No need to pretend. Think most know the saying "if you aren't paying you are the product".
@avoidercat You can believe what you want to believe, but as I said before, I haven't had any contact with the PR for this game and don't even know who's handling it.
You might see something as an "empty" story, but we see how many views it gets - and therefore how much interest there is.
No PR company / publisher / developer has paid us to produce content on Pure Xbox.
Removed - unconstructive feedback
@FraserG but Interesting you cited "interest" as reason for multiple stories including:
This is what I mean by "empty" stories -apologies for the term, but I hope you see what I mean about very little extra information. Again far from just you doing it.
Click farming is part of what has done for niche journalism, turning it to the simplest lowest common denominator and thinly veiled adverts we see today.
@avoidercat I understand where you're coming from - all I can say is that from my perspective, the number one intent is to provide the most engaging content possible to our readers.
To be fully transparent about 7 Days To Die, we noticed a massive amount of interest (far beyond the PX comments section) to the announcement of an Xbox Series X|S version back in April.
We've covered it three times since then (all this month) and received a high level of engagement on each story - the kind of engagement that many new releases don't get on Pure Xbox.
However, the idea wasn't to copy and paste anything - July's first story was about a target date, yesterday's story was an FAQ about the launch (which had now been confirmed), and today's article was to provide some first impressions.
@FraserG I do appreciate your response. Whilst I may be cynical, thank you for the polite explanation of your point of view.
@avoidercat No problem, thank you too 🤝
Welp....never playing this again. Myself, along with thousands of others paid into the game preview years ago. We checked for an update weekly for about 10 years. Now we gotta pay more than $30 to purchase the game AGAIN. They can't tell me that thousands of backers didn't help them create the successful game that it is today. BS. So, here's what it comes down to. You see the game for the first time in the store today: 45 bucks. You were a dedicated backer for the past 10 years, patiently waiting for the console release: you pay $65+ (30 for the beta + 35). That's really some reward for paying into the game pre-release and giving them the funds they need to make the game sellable. Yeah it's so great that I'll end up paying 65 vs the newborn who never did diddly for the game paying 45. I really hope lots of bad things fall on these guys, a remainder of their days chock full of turmoil and failure. What terrible greedy people who literally made backers pay more for the game. Never buying anything from that studio or publisher again and I will be telling everyone I know about this rip-off to the backers.....25%...what a bunch of chumps. Should have been 7t% at the lowest. I'M NOT MADE OF MONEY AND I WAIT 10 F***** YEARS! JERKS!!!!!!
@JaffeGaffe Damn bro....you alright? lol
Back on Wed 24th Apr 2024 you said "It'll bomb. And I'll male sure I'm one of the first reviews visible on that store page. I'll set my watch to it. SMH. "
Did you do it? lol
