Way back in April, SteamWorld Heist 2 was announced for Xbox Series X|S, and the team's initial reveal trailer included a Game Pass logo. Of course, since then we've been fully expecting the upcoming sequel to launch on Xbox Game Pass on August 8th - however, news has now surfaced that the Game Pass logo was a mistake, and the game is seemingly not coming to the service anymore.
Over at Xbox Era, the outlet received a statement from the game's marketing team that said it had "inadvertently" included a Game Pass logo in the SteamWorld Heist 2 announcement trailer.
"We inadvertently included a Game Pass logo in our reveal trailer.
The game will NOT be going on Game Pass. Thanks for asking!"
Once this news started to spread around, a senior reporter at Kotaku also asked for extra clarification. Unfortunately, this has only added extra confusion, as this response goes on to say that the team "hasn't finalized distribution plans" for SteamWorld Heist 2 - hinting that launch plans haven't been fully decided yet.
"We inadvertently included a Game Pass logo in our reveal trailer. We have not finalized our distribution plays for SteamWorld Heist 2 at this time. We'll share news about our distribution plans closer to launch."
All we can say for now is that the team did ask us to remove any Xbox Game Pass mentions from our recent hands-on preview, but it didn't provide any extra context about its Xbox Game Pass decision. We'll have to see how this one plays out at launch in August, but for now, SteamWorld Heist 2 is seemingly no longer coming to Xbox Game Pass.

You don't inadvertently do something like that. They got cold feet and changed their mind, but are now trying to retcon it. Not a good look...
Not interested in the game, but April to near July is a long time to not correct a Game Pass logo if it was added in error. I wonder if we will ever get more clarity on this.
Feels like a game that should be on Gamepass… or on my Commodore 64…
Definitely a loss as the SteamWorld games are great!
Fortunately won’t affect me, prefer to play it on Switch.
@FarmDog08 Right?!?! Are they somehow only just now realizing the mistake? I don’t buy it.
Their last new game launched on Gamepass and they just released Dig 1/2 on the service a couple of days ago. Weird turn of events. Feels a bit suss tbh.
That's a shame. Thunderful's games are usually great.
Disappointed with this news. I was really looking forward to this on GP.
I would be very interested in buying a double pack of both Steamworld Heist games if Thunderful are reading this.
Not gonna lie, I'm disappointed by this. But then again, I was likely to double dip on switch at some point anyway as I loved heist 1.
It would be a shame if it didn't launch in gamepass. The first one is great. I must have played through the campaign 5 times or more.
I will be hesitant to buy the game at launch. If they are kicking around the idea of launching on GP then I would assume they would welcome a GP deal 6 months to a year after launch. If it doesn't launch in GP I think I will wait and jump on a sale price if it still hasnt made it to Gamepass.
Was looking forward to trying this😥 probs see how Reviews once outmihht grab it
@BacklogBrad Good point. Same here.
What a trainwreck. I was really looking forward to this game, but if it’s not on game pass, I have too much other stuff to play anyway. It’s the difference between playing day one, and buying it on sale in a year or two, possibly never. Their loss, not mine…
