Today's Xbox Game Pass roundup is slightly different than the norm, as although we've only got one game joining the service today in the form of Evil West, there's also a very generous new Game Pass Perk for Final Fantasy XIV Online.
In terms of Final Fantasy, this Perk grants you access to the "Starter Edition" of FFXIV Online, which includes the base game along with two expansions (Heavensward and Stormblood). The big thing you need to know is that you get 30 days of free access with the Starter Edition, after which a paid monthly subscription is required.
If you just want to play the Final Fantasy XIV Online Free Trial, we suggest not claiming this Perk.
"Square Enix Accounts registered to the FINAL FANTASY XIV Online Starter Edition will not be eligible for the FINAL FANTASY XIV Free Trial. Certain features currently contained in the FINAL FANTASY XIV Online Starter Edition, and additional content, may become available in the FINAL FANTASY XIV Free Trial in the future."
With those details out the way, let's take a look at what's on Xbox Game Pass today, March 21st:
Evil West (Console, PC, Cloud)
"A dark menace consumes the Old West. In solo or coop, fight with style in visceral, explosive combat against bloodthirsty monstrosities. Eradicate the vampiric hordes with your lightning-fueled gauntlet and become a Wild West Superhero."
Final Fantasy XIV Online Starter Edition (XGP Perks)
"For newcomers to FINAL FANTASY XIV Online, this edition includes three award-winning titles - FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn the base game, and the first and second expansions: FINAL FANTASY XIV: Heavensward and FINAL FANTASY XIV: Stormblood. This edition also includes a 30-day free play period."

Evil west was my radar and wishlist for a while, so will give it a try at some point.
Tried Evil West when it was free with PS Plus and i got stuck on one of the boss battles and never went back what i played was pretty fun though.
@Rangers420 noooo. it has boss battles? i just wanted a good old shooter.
Oh, yeah, I'm really going to pay attention to review scores all of the sudden. Where pure mediocrity is endlessly praised as masterful brilliance, because apparently everyone forgot what a clone is. No, I think I'm going to give the genuinely interesting looking game a try, thanks.
@rustyduck what old shooter doesn't have boss battles again? Postal 2?
I'd like to try final fantasy but knowing it has subscription turns me off completely. Not want even use free trial just to get hooked and end up shelling out money every month.
The reason I love, play, and buy all the DLC for Elder Scrolls Online, is no subscription needed. Plus it's a fun game.
@GuyinPA75 ESO is an infinitely better game in literally every way. The only people who really enjoy FFXIV are those who have never tried another MMO in their lives, and let the merely halfway decent worldbuilding blind them to the blatant repetition that really is on the same level as a Korean FTP MMO.
Played evil west on the other service... Its worth a look, but it didnt excite me and i dropped it after level 2.
I gave ff14 a go recently too. I dont really understand why I didnt have to pay on PS, but would on Xbox? I hope everyone enjoys it, but after several hours getting stuck in what is the most cumbersome and obtuse UI I've ever used, I gave up! If anyone has links to a resource that might help me better use the UI, Id be really grateful, as Id still want to play....
Both of these are good additions for GP, Im just drowning in unfinished games elsewhere atm or Id resub in an instant!
@rustyduck Isn't that a staple of a good, old shooter?
@BBB or maybe what I said is a factual statement, y'know, about the shocking repetitive nature of the game, and you cannot refute that?
Yeah I'm sorry but if that game wasn't called "Final Fantasy" something or other, it wouldn't have lasted long. It's success is undeserved, to put it mildly. I don't even want to go into the ridiculousness of it's cash shop, but it's egregiously ridiculous, so I might as well mention that. Egregious for a game that requires a subscription, most certainly, which again, considering it's shockingly grindy Korean FTP style of gameplay, it really shouldn't have, and again, it only solely gets away with because of it's friggin name alone. 😉
@BBB Thanks mate, very helpful. Ill definitely give it a go again once Ive finally finished Rebirth.
There's always someone on the net who believes the ultimate truth belongs to them and anyone with differing tastes is stupid, its the price we all pay for connecting as we do 😁
