Dragon's Dogma 2's upcoming launch is right around the corner, with Capcom's long-awaited sequel landing on Xbox Series X|S on March 22nd. Ahead of the game's impending release, various outlets have gone hands-on with the open-world RPG - and these previews are very positive indeed.
So, we've gathered up some examples of what folks are saying about DD2 right now, but be warned - these might just convince you to add the game to your March wishlists!
IGN
"My demo ended in the dead of night trying to help a character navigate the spirits, Zombies, and monsters waiting for me in the darkness. But after playing almost two and a half hours, there’s no denying that Dragon’s Dogma 2 had me hooked. I cannot wait to play more on March 22nd."
PC Gamer
"At a glance Dragon's Dogma 2 does indeed look awfully similar; dated, even. But pay attention to where the budget has gone—combat animations that set a new high bar, a world that truly demands you find your own way through it—and you can see a vision for a subtly different kind of roleplaying game than anyone else is making."
Eurogamer
"So much of what I experienced in the time I played Dragon's Dogma 2 gave me a very strange, but comfortable feeling of deja-vu. Have you ever gone back to play a game from your childhood, only to feel disappointed that it didn't look or play as well as you remembered? Dragon's Dogma 2 feels like the inverse of that sensation: as if I'm replaying the original ten years later, but it feels better and looks prettier than I remember."
Polygon
"Although I spent most of my three hours with Dragon’s Dogma 2 either lost or dying (or both), I fully see the appeal. Dragon’s Dogma 2 boasts the sort of emergent, tell-your-friends-about-it-later gameplay that you simply can’t script. You learn your mistakes the hard way: getting lost and dying over and over again."
Kotaku
"Boasting a map four times the size of its predecessor, there seems to be a wealth of weird and wonderful secrets hidden across its unruly landscape. Based on my three monster-slaying hours, Dragon’s Dogma 2 is still an inherently oddball twist on the RPG, and probably isn’t for everyone. Yet thanks to a more accessible onboarding process and intuitive combat, without a Baldur’s Gate 3 or Tears of the Kingdom in the way, there’s every chance that Capcom’s fantasy outing could be the breakout RPG of 2024."
GameSpot
"In the three hours I played, I felt like I had seen a lot, fought a lot, and explored a lot. But I was also left feeling as though I had barely even scratched the surface of what Dragon's Dogma 2 has to offer--I never did find the boy who was dragged off by wolves. Instead, I was hurled into a dozen other stories, some the game provided to me, while others I formed from my own exploring."
Game Informer
"I’m glad I spent time picking through the half-dozen side quests I received during this preview because this is where Dragon’s Dogma 2 shines. It highlights the game’s brutal sense of adventure, reminds me my every action matters, and lets me take part in 20-minute encounters against towering ogres seemingly impervious to my magical arrows (it turns out shooting off their spiky armor and scaling their backs to stab their eyes is the way to go, by the way)."
Dragon's Dogma 2 sounds like a big old beast then, and if you're wanting to play it after reading these previews, the game lands on Xbox Series X and S later this month as the first $70 Capcom title.

I don't buy many day one games (that are not Nintendo IP so don't really go down in price) but I have just now preorder this to have a 15% discount and let's hope I don't need to return it after reviews and YouTubers firs looks (like I had to do with Jedi survivor unfortunately)
The uncapped framerate averaging 31fps is a deal breaker for me, and I own a VRR TV. That sort of no man's land framerate is awful to play and looks horrific
Consistency is king and they need to offer a properly frame paced 30fps cap or I won't bother wasting my time on such a technical mess and I loved the original and the Dark Arisen dlc.
I am not rewarding them for their incompetence and would prefer to send the dev and publisher a clear message that this kind of framerate is unacceptable.

Goes down to low 20s FPS in any combat scene on 550€ consoles. Huge disappointment.
I loved the first one so will definitely pick this up on launch
Even in the previews last year, the game looked like it stuttered every time there was combat or something going on in the background. Maybe the engine is at fault here? Sure the RE engine does wonders for smaller hub areas but this is a huge open world and that means rendering a ton more details compared to their previous titles.
I don't like games where you can get lost easily. I don't have that kind of patience anymore. I guess it's a pass for me. Too many games to play anyways.
Curious to see what PC performance is like. Gonna laugh my ass off if it's running better on my Steam Deck OLED than on these current-gen consoles.
I’m so confused… first the reviewers are saying the game is fun but everyone here is complaining about frame rates… who to believe……
@AlwaysPlaying Games can be fun, even with substandard performance. What's to be confused about?
@Sakai lol
