Today's the day if you want to try Ubisoft's upcoming Skull & Bones for free! The Xbox Open Beta just went live a few hours ago, and it's free to try on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S over the next few days (ending on February 11th)
It's still very early, but the feedback we've been seeing so far has been relatively good. On the Xbox Store, the reviews are definitely mixed but leaning in favour of positive, while the game's Reddit community seems mostly impressed:
If you're interested in playing the Skull & Bones Open Beta, all you need to do is search for it on the Xbox Store and then hit the "Get: Free" button. Alternatively, the download can be started on a browser via the link below:

@Kaloudz Really? I’ve been playing the open beta since this morning and I’m not impressed with it at all. No combat when outside the boat aside from firing cannons while on land? No swimming at all? They call this a pirate game? Several Assassin’s Creed games like Odyssey, Black Flag and Valhalla did it better. I wouldn’t dream of paying £30 for this let alone £70.
@Kaloudz They really need to add sword combat and the ability to swim underwater searching for loot in ship wrecks. How/why they decided to omit those in a pirate game is beyond me.
Sea of Thieves is definitely the better game imo, at least that has all the things you’d expect in a pirate game. Black Flag is supposedly getting a remake, I’d certainly be up for buying that.
@Kaloudz the big benefit of this one over sea of thieves is that you don't need a crew just to sail the boat. So you can actually play the game while waiting for friends to get online.
It has been okay but I only really play SP and I have already seen some foul play in the PvP spaces which I don't think I would enjoy. I think if I could play it offline and Solo I would enjoy it a lot more.
The graphics and a bit glitchy and it did crash a couple of times to but I guess they are stress testing the servers ahead of launch.
Also this is not really a Pirate game more a naval warfare game. If you see it as just ship combat you will enjoy it a lot more.
Everyone is different of course, but Id rather play black flag than this. I've only played for just over an hour, but this realy felt generic and poorly finished to me,.
This is a shame as Im a complete sucker for pirates and live in a16th centuary pirate town with an annual pirate festival (Brixham, Devon), so I REALLY want to like it!
I will try it again in case it gets better or I was in an unreceptive mood, but based on my first 80 odd minutes I genuinely felt it was 2 gens old. Hugely dissapointing, but long predicted I guess.
Ps. Has anyone heard any sea shanties? Its sacrilege if there are not any...
@Titntin Except for not living Devon, I could have written this comment. We are of the same mind on this one.
