During The Game Awards 2023, SEGA finally revealed that it was working on a Crazy Taxi reboot - and the company has added a little bit more context to the title in a new interview with The Japan Times.
There's not a lot here - but the new comment backs up a previous report from all the way back in 2022. Basically, this Crazy Taxi reboot will be a 'AAA' release when it lands - as reported on before SEGA had officially announced the game.
"We are also participating in the development of Triple-A titles, including Crazy Taxi..."
We don't have much evidence of this just yet, but the above sizzle-reel trailer does include a few short seconds of Crazy Taxi footage - and it's looking quite good so far. Hopefully the team delivers a much larger chunk of gameplay soon.
Despite this 'AAA' tag, we hope that SEGA sticks to the core principles of Crazy Taxi with its upcoming release. This was always an arcade-style racer at heart, and as long as the game's unique personality is carried forward here then we'll be happy chauffeurs indeed!
Are you hyped for more Crazy Taxi? Do tell us what you think so far down below.

Sounds like it's gonna be a AAA price, that's for sure.
Is that one A below AAAA Skull & Bones?
Wonder if this is gonna be similar to Skull and Bones' AAAA status.
Though real talk, I trust Sega more than I ever could post 360-era Ubisoft.
😮💨 thank god it’s not quadruple A. AAA > AAAA
I don't think Sega has made a triple A game since the Genesis. And i say that as a Dreamcast owner and fan.
It must be nothing like the original then if they are going to charge so much for it I loved the original hopefully it has the old offspring songs from the original at least
I was curious how the crazy taxi gameplay loop would play today. Trying to imagine the gameplay loop in a "AAA" experience is hard to wrap my head around. I'm very skeptical.
@Reptilio Shenmue was the most expensive videogame for over a decade, how much more AAA can you get really
what they mean by AAA is that it will be a live service game.
They have tested this model before with some Crazy Taxi mobile games. They were actually pretty fun.
To people who would turn their nose at the mention of "live service", how else can you make money out of a pure arcade game these days? Seriously think they're investing on the franchise for the first time in 20 years to release a 20$ minigame?
It won’t be unless they have the original soundtracks from 1 & 2
@Reptilio Alien: Isolation
@Reptilio Shenmue is pretty much the definition of an AAA game.
Also, almost every Yakuza ever mode is essentially an AAA title, just made more efficiently
One of the main things that made the original so much fun was it’s simplicity. I hope they remember that when making this new entry, but this talk of ”AAA” has made me a bit worried.
Fingers crossed Sega will be able to license more music by the Offspring. Crazy Taxi just won't be the same without a sweaty punk irritant bellowing oafish gibberish throughout.
"Triple-A" gets thrown around so much that it's losing its meaning. Do they mean that it'll be premium-priced? Feature a massive open world? Or simply have an appropriate budget, high production values, and lots of care put into it?
I'm hoping for the latter!
Why? It's a sequel to a nearly 25 year old arcade game. Fans just want a fun game in the spirit of the original. Which in this case isn't really conducive to a AAA release.
I was really hyped at the initial Sega announcement but this has me worried tbh. I just wanted a bunch of fun AA/budget sequels to some fun dormant franchises.
SEGA IS FIZUKIN' BACK BABY!!!!
