There's a lot going on in the world of Xbox as we head towards this week's Developer Direct, and a new report has just outed one of the featured game's release dates. Yep, outlet exputer is claiming that Ninja Theory's Hellblade 2 will launch on May 21st, 2024.
Until tomorrow's event wraps up we won't know this for sure, but exputer claims that "sources close" to the site have this upcoming Xbox exclusive pinned for May 21st. Xbox's livestream takes place tomorrow, January 18th, so we don't have to wait long to see if this date is accurate.
Yesterday, the team at GSC Game World revealed that its Game Pass shooter Stalker 2 will launch on September 5th, and once Dev Direct comes and goes, we should have plenty of Xbox release dates confirmed in the 2024 calendar. Exciting times ahead!
Hellblade 2 has been a long time coming from Xbox and Ninja Theory. The game was initially revealed alongside the Xbox Series X five years ago, and the title has featured quite a lot during recent gaming showcases. Hopefully we'll be playing this one in just a few short months - day one on Xbox Game Pass.
Do you think we could see Hellblade 2 launch by the end of May? Tell us what you think down below.

@Kaloudz - Maybe the shadow drop that isn’t happening? 😏
I read "may be set". Then I double-checked and now this is good news!
@Kaloudz Seriously! Something HAS to drop this quarter. If it isn't any of the 4 games tomorrow, it's either a shadow drop or a reveal with a quick turnaround. I'm kind of thinking it is Ara, but that would leave another empty quarter to fill either way.
Really looking forward to tomorrow’s developers direct. I hope Xbox nail it I really do.
Brilliant news but please release it when it's ready not before because if its anything like the 1st game it's going to be amazing
@Kaloudz
I’m very happy with your release prediction.
Same as you I have no interest in Ara.
But that’s fine, the rest make up for it.
@Kaloudz This is a solid lineup for 2024 and that's just from Team Green! I'm not that interested in Ara or Hellblade, but I will try Avowed and I'm really interested to see what they are doing with Indy. Xbox is the best ecosystem for gaming right now. So well rounded. You can find near any genre in gaming. I will be disappearing for awhile when Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth releases next week though!
Really looking forward to Hellblade 2, these are great news.
However, I wouldn't expect shadow drop tomorrow. That is what always happens with Xbox events, people over-hype themselves based on rumors and then get disappointed even if they should not be.
@FarmDog08 @Kaloudz Would be odd having a PC exclusive be your major Q1 release. Don't get me wrong, the timings sound about right if Hellblade 2 does release in May but I do think Xbox consoles will get something in Q1.
May for Hellblade is earlier than I was expecting so that is very good news if it’s true.
@Kaloudz That was Like A Dragon Gaiden, which bridges Yakuza: Like A Dragon and Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth.
@Grumblevolcano I hope it is something else than Ara. I'll be busy with other games if not, but who knows? Maybe we get a surprise tomorrow.
This news made my day already. If true, it's not so far away! This has been my most anticipated game in years (after Alan Wake 2).
This last Christmas, I replayed Hellblade, now on Steam (I have played it on Xbox and Switch, and I plan to get it on PS on a sale someday). One achievement left to get 100%.
@Kaloudz I don't know if the one game per quarter is set in stone especially so soon. If they average 4 games per year then I think they achieved their goal. It's possible that hellblade in may is the next xbox game.
Maybe in a couple years they will be at a point where they can hold finished games for the ideal launch window like Nintendo. For now I think they are just dropping them whenever they are ready.
Please be true! This, Avowed, and FFVII Rebirth are my most anticipated games.
Oh dang! That's crazy I was expecting 2025
Was sort of expecting this one in the fall, so that there’d be a bit of recency bias for GotY talks (I’m not knocking the game, I’m just aware that fall titles are more often present in the GotY discussion and Hellblade 2 is certainly a game cut from that cloth). But hey, hopefully Avowed isn’t too far behind!
I'm guessing Avowed is first, followed by Hellblade 2, Ara, Stalker 2 is September 5 and Indiana Jones will be Holiday.
@Romans12 yea you are gonna be disappointed dog
@Kaloudz it is their goal but I don't think they are at a spot where it is guaranteed to be the case. Like if Ara needs a couple more months, I think they would happily have 2 in the 2nd quarter instead.
Once all their studios are synced up and completely past covid delays, etc. then they will probably be able to sit on a completed game while they wait for the perfect release window. That will be great because in theory the studio will have the game in a release ready state but still have months before there window where they can focus on the extra polish. I think they are still in the release them whenever they are ready stage.
Hellblade 2 wasn't revealed 5 years ago. It was revealed in December 2019 so that's 4 years and 1 month ago. My most anticipated title of 2024!
Has everyone forgotten that MS Flight Sim 2024 is out this year? That will be one of the 4/5 games.
My guess:
Hellblade 2: May
MS Flight Sim 24: Summer
Avowed: Sept/Oct
Indiana Jones: Fall/Winter
@Fishmasterflex96 Crazy thing is that none of these games appeal to me. perhaps Stalker slightly.
