Ubisoft's new Prince Of Persia title officially arrives next Thursday, with media going hands-on with game this week ahead of launch. As we've already established, it's going down very well with the critics so far - and that extends to tech-focused outlet Digital Foundry.
In their new look at The Lost Crown, DF says that the game is "masterfully deployed across all platforms", including Xbox Series X and S. In fact, Microsoft's high-end machine seems to be the pick of the bunch, delivering a version that "sits closer to the full 120FPS target" than any other console platform.

"When playing on PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X, you're in for a treat - The Lost Crown supports up to native 4K at 120 frames per second. Granted, you'll need an HDMI 2.1 compatible TV to display this, but trust me, it makes a big difference. 60fps is a walk in the park for PS5 and Xbox Series X, and even at 4K 120, they both acquit themselves well.
Xbox sits closer to the full 120fps target, but VRR is a great leveller, and both of the premium current-gen consoles look much alike. If you're sensitive to judder and your display's 120Hz support doesn't extend to VRR, 60fps is essentially a lock and may be preferable."
Over on Xbox Series S we're talking 1440p at 60FPS, which is another solid turnout for the console. Here's what the DF tech minds think about how the all-digital Xbox handles The Lost Crown:
"If we move down the stack, Series S is the one question mark from my perspective - this one tops out at 1440p60. It looks great, plays great and is more than adequate I might argue but it feels like the little box could do better. Even if 120fps is off the table, the point about VRR still stands and allowing the game to run above 60 fps on a VRR display would be optimal."
As for what we think of the game here at Pure Xbox, you'll have to read our full review to hear all about PJ's thoughts on this new Metroidvania adventure. We will tell you that the game scored a very-high 9/10 though - we've really enjoyed our time with this one.
Has this become a must-buy now? Let us know if you're picking the game up!

Maybe the demo was not a true taste of the final product because what I played used slide shows for cutscenes, the character models were not terribly details and overall it felt like a less interesting version of Dead Cells
I watched the DF video yesterday and I am very excited for this. Everything about it appeals to me as I am a huge metroidvania fan and it looks so excellent.
The only reason I haven't already bought it is because of the stupid Ubisoft account requirement. I wish corporations would stop shoving their corporate garbage in our faces. I'll probably pick this game up soon, but I find that detail to be frustrating.
I was thinking of waiting to buy this as my plate is full. But I think I'm just going to buy it now, as I want to support more games like this!
The old prince games were really boring but I love Metroidvanias and the demo was pretty fun. Reminds me of strider a bit aesthetically speaking, strider was a really underrated MV. The biggest problem I have with this game is it's f 50$. I've personally never seen a MV that was more than like 30$. This game is way overpriced I don't care how long the play time is and I doubt it's in the same league as the GOAT MV's which were all less expensive. Games like shadow complex, hollow knight, grime, strider, blasphemous, ori, symphony of the night, ritual of the night, last faith, the mummy demastered, etc....all amazing games and all like half the price or less. This game should be 29$
@Kaloudz Well, the debut trailer for Lost Crown had absolutely horrible music. And many were still upset/confused over the disappearance of the Sands of Time remake, given how terrible it was looking. But fortunately, Lost Crown seems to be a winner. 🙂 POP may finally be heading for a renaissance.
More of a switch type of game for me
