Microsoft has today begun discounting the Xbox Series X as part of a special deal in the US, bringing the price down from $499.99 to just $399.99 on the Xbox Store. And yes, you can use your Microsoft Rewards points on this too!
This "limited" deal is specifically for the US and applies while stocks last. It also includes some bundles!
Please note that some external links on this page are affiliate links, which means if you click them and make a purchase we may receive a small percentage of the sale. Please read our FTC Disclosure for more information.
Alternatively, you might actually find the Xbox Series X for an even better deal if you look around, as Walmart and Target have recently been offering bundles for lower than $399 - such as the few in the example down below. Deals like these are coming and going all the time, so it's always worth keeping an eye on these retailers' websites.
There's no word on how long this "limited" offer will last, so it's worth taking advantage as quickly as possible if you're interested. As mentioned, this is only for the US market - hopefully other markets will get their own specific deals too.
Oh, and if you're more interested in the Xbox Series S instead, that's also been discounted in the US! You can currently pick up the Xbox Series S Starter Bundle from the official Xbox Store for $239.99 rather than $299.99. This doesn't seem to have been marketed as much just yet - we actually spotted the deal by accident!

Not gonna lie, that should be the new permanent price.
I don’t need a Series X as I already have one, but that’s a good deal. The sales and discounts on the Series X and S this year have been more aggressive than years past. Hope this strategy works for them. Sell more consoles and Gamepass subscriptions.
Im good with series s. Mostly for 360 and OG games
Wow! Must be loosing a fortune at that price.
They should do a Christmas discount in UK too.
I’d just say we need games not price reductions. If the console had new must have games it wouldn’t need such drastic price reductions.
now just make perfect dark perfect and get it out asap......at 60 fps lol.
$350 on Amazon US at the moment as well. Price is very tempting 🤔
EDIT: Extreme YMMV here but Gamestop will price match the Amazon price and they have a $25 off $250+ purchase deal going on now as well. An X for $325 is a hell of a score
A drop this big concerns me.
Glad to see that one company is actually reducing a price. Instead, you have "other" companies raising the price and people defending that. Weird, weird flex to praise RAISING a price and condemn LOWERING a price if you ask me.
Just another reason the future is so bright for team green, tons of games coming out, game pass, and saving me money. I love it!
@__jamiie clearing stock for the new Series X coming in 2024. Same with the controllers, got the new one coming so they will clear inventory on those as well.
Surprise surprise it’s for the US only.
Oh and on the day it’s just been announced that they finished 3rd in sales etc for November there.
@J_Mo_Money Sony have had the ps5 discounted for months? When Xbox was still at full price?!
@HonestHick I forgot about those! Ignore me. My mind went to doom and gloom thinking no more hardware ever again rather than new hardware being released.
@__jamiie it’s all good. Yeah even Sony did a lot of back inventory sales to clear old SKU’s out before the slim launched. I believe this is a part of that as we should start hearing more about the controller and new Series S/X in early to mid 2024. The leak showed that. This is a heck of a steal tho. Great hardware at that price point for newer gamers to come into Xbox.
@PsBoxSwitchOwner they have? Ps5 launched at $499. I havent seen it lower than that, unless its been cheaper now on amazon or something. Musta missed it.
@PsBoxSwitchOwner xbox was actually 2nd for the month of november, just 3rd in the year. I have a feeling xbox might take december as well as people wait for the next switch.
@HonestHick I bought a few cheap PS5 original models to sell on in a few years but had completely forgotten about the Xbox hardware leak. I think it's because the PS5 'slim' has been a real thing, visible in the world for a bit VS the (so far) hypothetical new Xbox, that it slipped my mind.
I've personally think that the Series X|S are two of the most well designed, durable and beautifully constructed pieces of hardware ever. I doubt I'll get rid of my current systems when the new one(s) release, BUT I really hope it doesn't follow the Amazon Echo cylinder approach.
I'd actually like to see Xbox partner with Analogue for the next system design. They always seem to nail the bridge between functionality and beauty.
@J_Mo_Money I got 3rd from pushsquare -
As for console sales in the USA, the PS5 was once again the best-selling system in terms of both units and dollar sales. The Nintendo Switch was second across both metrics, and then the Xbox Series X|S machines took third.
They must have reported wrong.
@PsBoxSwitchOwner no, you were correct. They were 3rd for the year, but 2nd for the month, so technically right or wrong depending how you look at it. I think they will come out on top over switch for december as well, due again to the next switch being right around the corner. This price cut might give them a boost too because I doubt switch will do a cut.
Any US peeps, If you have a Costco membership they are selling the Series S with a headset for ONLY $150 in store!!
My results across all three consoles in hours.
Switch 450
Series x 230
PS5 35
Switch had a fantastic year for me as you can see from the above.
I will say however I think Nintendo have left Switch 2 too late. My analysis shows the last two months apart from Mario Wonder has Series x above Switch. But of course not for the whole year as seen above.
Switch 2 with new games should have either released this November 2023 or latest March 2024.
Sales in the Switch console apart from Japan are showing this as well.
So my analysis is showing a sharp move in hours played to series x for later in 2023.
If I invest more in Xbox eco system the move will take me further away from Switch and if Switch 2 is not out until maybe October 2024, it could be hard for Nintendo to get me back into its eco system.
Big mistake Nintendo if later than March 2024 for Switch 2.
They have a bit of momentum in the UK after Black Friday reduced price.
They need to do this in the UK right now to keep momentum and get the masses more into the Xbox eco system.
Also of course Europe as well.
Now we know why we have the discount in December for the USA, not a good month for all consoles.
Not a great Black Friday month November 2023
In the USA compared to last year 2022, for all.
PlayStation 5 sales compared to the same month a year ago are down by 331,212 (-21.3%). Xbox Series X|S sales are down by 173,563 units (-20.2%) and Nintendo Switch sales are down by 591,193 units (-46.5%).
@OldGamer999 I realize all gaming sectors thrived when covid was doing its thing. However I'll always wonder what Nintendo Switch sales would like like without the lock down.......
@InterceptorAlpha We don't know how much money they are losing per unit. MS never announced if the Series X was profitable or breaking even. Sony announced that the PS5 was profitable a while back, but how profitable? Fifty cents per unit? $1? 😄
@theduckofdeath Doesn't matter how much they're losing. Historically, until the Xbox One/PS4 -all- consoles were sold at a loss and it was made up on software and licensing.
If Microsoft wants any third parties to be willing to prioritize them they need a larger install base. And this may be a temporary way to boost it. Especially with the threat of a PS5 Pro on the horizon. Better to do it now than to see desperate and do it after given Microsoft statement of no Pro models this gen from them.
Sold at a loss at launch, yes. We are three years in and still not profitable. The recent sales knocked off $150. I don't know if they could justify keeping the price at $399 after raising prices in some regions this year.
Even if MS could catch up with PS5 (which won't happen), 3rd party pubs would still favor PS out of habit. The 360 had to launch a year early to pull that off. The rumors about the P5 Pro have the APU specs brought in line with the Series X. MS needs to get their studios' cadence rolling and have some big titles lined up for the launch of the next Xbox.
@__jamiie yeah i agree the newer Xbox is a ways off. I think they have to build some momentum. PS is crushing it in sales and they don’t want to fall to far off. I also agree the S/X are really well built. I haven’t had any issue’s with either my Series X or PS5 for that matter. All thats really missing is some must have games. I think they are coming but we just don’t know for sure yet. ABK games to GP will be a help. This year along with 2022 was rough for me as a Xbox player, cause 2022 was dead, and 23 was Forza and Starfield and neither speak to my gaming needs.
As you are a UK site primarily give us some UK discount news too!
Target red card deal adds another 5% discount. With tax it was 358 for me with red card. Just grabbed one for the bedroom. Good deal. The newer model will be have better wifi 6, but loses the drive. if you need one as a spare, this is a good deal. Costco rumored to have 149.00 500g series S on sale too.
Latest update, target is not the diablo bundle.
Just the console. Wal-mart has that one but it was sold out.
That’s brilliant pricing. As Xbox make a loss on consoles anyway, why not leave these are the permanent prices and get more consoles in more homes?
Being a loss leader would make sense right now!
If I didn’t already have one, at these prices I would buy one again!
@OldGamer999 I’m almost certain Switch will be later than March 2024 (though with Nintendo who ever knows).
But this year has been fantastic for them generally. New Zelda, Mario, Pikmin, Fire Emblem, Bayonetta, etc. Great remake/remasters for Metroid, Mario RPG & Advance Wars. DLC for Mario Kart, Xenoblade Chronicles, Splatoon, etc. The Mario movie breaking records. And sales of Switch staying competitive with much newer consoles, now over 130 million units sold.
Would that Xbox and PlayStation could do as well with their first party content with all their resources.
@themightyant I think Switch 2 will be announced March 2024 for November 2024.
As long as it is backward compatible it will sell as well as the OG Switch.
Xbox will be just fine. Nothing to be worried about at all.
@BaldBelper78 Not worried at all about Xbox, or Nintendo, or Sony for that matter. I think they are all poised to do well over the next 5+ years. That doesn’t mean each can’t do better.
Especially Nintendo if Switch 2 is backwards compatible and they can keep pumping out quality first party games that demand to be played. That ties up both the more casual and enthusiast market. Devices like Steam Deck are probably their biggest competition but last I saw that was estimated around 5 million units or something (edited)
You have to love the pseudo-neutrals here... 100 off is excellent because Series X is still the best console in terms of hardware, built quality, design and power and you can play thousands of games on it. The price reduction is not really that weird considering it's three years old and it's a Christmas offer. If that leak is true, there will be a Series X All-Digital Edition with 2TB of capacity and a new controller next year.
With ABK and the new games that all Xbox Game Studios will be releasing, Xbox will be more than all right. I didn't expect PS5 to be so successful considering the lack of games and that most are either remasters or very similar sequels, but the brand power is still so strong for Sony! However, PS5 has outsold Series S|X 1.87:1 so far, so nothing to be that worried about. I wonder what will happen next generation, when Xbox will have much more first-party content ready right from the start. Needless to say, Microsoft is not worried about console sales because Xbox has become a multi-platform environment. Xbox has also more premium subscribers which is what makes them billions every year.
Sale is now live in UK! 🎉
There are no discounts on 1TB Black Series S model (still £299.99) nor refurbished Series S consoles (£209.99).
