As we look ahead to 2024, one of the biggest releases for January is Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth, which arrives just two months after the Xbox Game Pass release of Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name.
Unlike Like a Dragon Gaiden though, Infinite Wealth won't be dropping on Game Pass at launch. And in a recent interview with Automaton, Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio Director Masayoshi Yokoyama explained exactly why that's the case:
"At the moment, there are no plans for Infinite Wealth to come to Game Pass."

"...for Gaiden, I thought of Game Pass as a way of “handing overseas users our business card” – in other words, letting players new to the series enjoy the game and get to know Kiryu. Game Pass proved to be a very good method to invite new users to interact with the series."
In the interview, Yokoyama also namedropped Baldur's Gate 3 as a title that was recently denied a Game Pass launch by developer Larian Studios, and he mentioned that he understood the reasoning behind the decision "very well".
Ultimately this makes a lot of sense, and while we wish Infinite Wealth was on Game Pass from day one, we're still holding out hope that it'll make its way to the service eventually - it seems pretty likely at some point in the future!
Will you be picking up Infinite Wealth on day one this January? Tell us in the comments down below.

How many of these games release a year??
I mean clearly this is the kind of game that will probably sell well without gamepass (I plan on buying). But given that every other Yakuza/LAD game has been on gamepass this more than likely will at some point which may actually hurt sales on Xbox as some peeps will just wait it out
This has been a planned purchase for me for a little while now. Saving up my rewards to get the Ultimate Edition for free. I've finished Yakuza: Like A Dragon to refresh my memory after beating it a couple of years ago and I'm playing through Like A Dragon Gaiden at the moment to round out the story. Can't wait for this to release!
@ValkyriaProfile Agreed it's probably another reason a few big games are still missing Xbox release at all. The fear of publishers games just won't sell due to GamePass hold out.
Hell most of my friends on Xbox, they just don't barely buy any games anymore due to "well it might come to GamePass". Two of them skipped Diablo 4 thinking it would come for free in 2023 for Blizzard buy out, and they both love Diablo it's one of their favorite franchises. Though that has also caused them to skip multiplayer games too so I just buy them on PS5 or PC instead.
I like GamePass but it definitely changed buying mentality for many people. They don't buy they just sub and pray games come to it. So Xbox misses out on 3-5 purchases for a game due to GamePass existing just myself and our friend group.
That's OK, people can still buy games like normal.
I would wish for 2024, that these game subscriptions finally die out.
@eire-shabba If you count all side games and remasters, about one per year, this includes spinoffs like Judgement.
This year we happened to get two, but one was a remaster and we didn't get a game in 22.
There tends to be about 4 years in between mainline entries.
@ValkyriaProfile Exactly treat it as the digital Blockbuster or Gamefly of renting games and that's a great mentality.
Though I think because so many high quality games have come to GamePass it has created GamePass hold out culture and possibly lowered digital game sales in a minor to medium way in the long run. With all the other platforms people don't treat their ecosystem this way. In some ways it's a turn off and sours the Xbox brand if I'm gonna be really honest. When GamePass started it didn't seem like this more of the opposite try then buy what you liked to keep.
I can wait for it to be on gamepass. Just subscribed to Ubisoft+ so I've got Avatar and ac mirage to play while waiting for January's gamepass additions and I'll also be able to play the new Prince of Persia game next month before my Ubisoft+ runs out.
Maybe players can just buy the game instead if demanding for gamepass? Xbox players have had a lot of exposure to the series and should be able to understand if they truly like and want these games. If not then the games may stop coming down the road
@Nintendo4Sonic seriously, but the rumblings from gamepass and now amazon prime, hope you like the service and can put up with ads cause both are coming in full force
@Rmg0731 this is exactly why sometimes games are missing on Xbox, the lower projection of actual sales versus other platforms.
For someone like me that wants the best console version and sometimes like a game enough to buy a disc Xbox is slowly pushing me away from their consoles and playing GamePass more on PC only. Then the Series X is for old games and rarely a new physical offline game.
Really want to love these games...I just can't get into them.....the none stop cutscenes where to much for me in the man who erased his name....defo a decent game but I just ended up skipping the cutscenes cause I was fed up of long cut scenes and 30 seconds of gameplay at the start of the game
@kuu_nousee yeah i upgraded from an series s to x as it only costed $100 to do so simply. Its just filled with 360 and og games. And then a few xone games like halo MCC. Having had both, just regret i went cheap initially on the s as it was very lacking across the board
@Rmg0731 True I did the same with S at first and really having a much weaker box even for BC just isn't as good, especially Xbox One titles. Then you miss out of disc based BC some games being BC exclusive to disc versions. I like how I can still get lots of good usage of Series X even without the proposition of not using GamePass on console.
Kind of a shame. This is the only game in the series that seems like it might be interesting to me.
Game pass has advantages and disadvantages. You get a full selection of games at a cheap price and personally I find it great to finish games that take less than 10 hours start to finish. For lots of other games that you might be hesitant to buy at full price you can see if they are worth it or find it's not something you want to play.
I'll play it regardless. Love this series.
Nothing wrong with that. I don't think people were expecting it to be?
Also, nothing wrong if it was on Game Pass Day 1.
Both are fine.
@DJKingaling it won't sell well on Xbox, most of the reviews for the other games i see are people saying "get this trash off of game pass"
I won't be buying it just because i played yakuza like a dragon in English and i wouldn't be doing that in this new one because i dislike yongyea, i think they should have stuck with the killbane sounding kiryu for English, plus i think hawaii is a corny/boring setting for what i assume will be majority of the game, i play yakuza games to explore japan not these other places.
I bought like a dragon gaiden on launch. But I won't buy infinite wealth on launch. There's too many games coming out around the same time. I'll get granblue fantasy first, then like a dragon, then persona 3 remake.
It appearing on gamepass in the future is reasonable. Like maybe 8-12 months after release. Like Yakuza Ishin.
Not everything has to release on gamepass Day One.
@kuu_nousee
What big games are those?
Smart to release Gaiden on GP. Playing this has sold me on the Like A Dragon Games. Pre-Ordered Infinite Wealth. No Regrats. Not even a single letter.
I soo want a physical copy of this game. Loved the previous one and the RPG style gameplay.
@StylesT That is Yakuza's thing — story and cinematic presentation. It sets everything up, as there is heavy continuity among the titles. The cinematics & dialog gives you a reason to do what you are doing.
As for gameplay, there was plenty in The Man Who Erased his Name. Especially when the casino boat is factored in. My playtime was over 40 hours.
I bought LAD steelbook on sale shortly after launch. Not long after it hit Game Pass. This time I think I'll wait a bit. I've just completed Yakuza 6 and "The Man." That is since starting around Thanksgiving. A break is warranted. Besides, I paused my playthrough of Ishin to complete the other two.
I like the try before you buy system that GP offers. Just like Baldurs Gate 3 I won't be buying until I try it out first.
