We've got a couple more Xbox server closures to report! FromSoftware has announced today that two of its Xbox 360 titles will be shutting their servers in March of 2024, although the games will continue to function offline as well.
One if these is Dark Souls 2, which already has a newer version for Xbox One anyway - and that version will continue to have online features. It's just the Xbox 360 (and PS3) version that's affected in this case.
Here's more information about FromSoftware's upcoming Xbox 360 closures:
Dark Souls 2 (Xbox 360) - March 31, 2024
"The following features will become unavailable once online services have been terminated:
- Asynchronous online elements such as shades, bloodstains and messages
- Multiplayer elements such as co-op play, invasions and dueling
Please note that offline gameplay will still be available.
- Online services will continue for the PS4, Xbox One and Windows DirectX9/11 versions of the game, so online play can still be enjoyed on these platforms."
Armored Core: Verdict Day (Xbox 360) - March 31, 2024
"The following features will become unavailable once online services have been terminated:
- World Mode
- Mercenary features
- Territory Customisation
- Ranking
- Team Menus
- Other features tied to online elements
- Trophies/Achievements linked to online elements will become unobtainable, and “Soldier Model” DLC will also become unavailable.
Please note that Story Missions will still be available to play offline."
These two games join a fairly long list of server closures for early 2024, as we reported on last week. March in particular looks pretty busy, with the likes of The Crew and Rocket Arena also going offline during that month.
And don't forget that the Xbox 360 marketplace will be closing forever in July of 2024, although you'll still be able to access your old digital purchases for the foreseeable future. You've only got a few months left to buy what you want!

Well I guess these servers cost money and need support. They can’t go on forever.
Just imagine decades ago back in the old days gaming wise, developers had none of these sort of cost and concerns.
@OldGamer999 But then the devs were more concerned about the 'next' game. They didn't support the game once it released anyway. When the Gen moved, those games were 'obsolete', old and now replaced by much newer experiences.
Its only in the last 'decade' or so that Game Preservation and Long term support have become 'important' to gamers. If you wanted to play Goldeneye, regardless of how 'poor' that performs on N64, you had to keep your N64 - no support, no updates etc and if you 'upgraded' to new gen, those 'old' games were left behind...
Really a shame Dark Souls 2 isn't backwards. Scholar of the First Sin is so wildly different there's room for both.
Had some very good and bad times on dark souls with Co op and invaders great game
