Bloober Team has announced today that it has entered into a partnership with Skybound Entertainment to create a game that currently has a codename of "R", and it's set to release at some point in 2025.
The game is being built around some kind of IP from Skybound, with The Walking Dead and The Invincible namedropped in the press release as two franchises that Skybound is best-known for. Given that Bloober Team is known for creating horror games, it seems possible that we're talking about a new Walking Dead game here.
Here's what the CEO of Bloober Team, Piotr Babieno, had to say in an announcement today:
"This project is the next step in the 2nd party strategy, where we work with external partners to provide our horror know-how. These are not titles that are only supposed to give us financial profit, but are the next steps in achieving our strategy by the end of 2027. We have known our friends from Skybound for a long time and I am sure that it will be a successful cooperation."
If you're not familiar with Bloober Team, this is the developer behind the day one Xbox Game Pass release of The Medium a couple of years ago, and we also saw Layers of Fear arrive on Xbox Series X|S earlier in 2023.
Obviously this new project is still over a year away for now, so we don't have any details on whether it's coming to Xbox or if it'll be exclusive for another platform, but we'll be keeping an eye out for further information throughout 2024.

One of the things Bloober does well is atmosphere. Maybe teaming up with another company, they’ll have better stories and better combat. They seem to get through games pretty quickly, I’d like to see them grow and start delivering games at the next level. In time, I think they could potentially start delivering some pretty good games.
Bloober has thus far released middling titles. The Medium was the coolest looking Xbox exclusive at one point and then it released and… it wasn’t. Wake me when Silent Hill 2 is out, so we can fall in love with it or rip it to shreds.
I think their games are good, but they need to be more than just a walking simulator.
