Which game has the best soundtrack? That's the question that the official Xbox Twitter account posed to over 1.8 million viewers yesterday, and it spawned a massive number of replies including from the Xbox boss himself.
Phil Spencer's pick has remained the same for years now - it's 2016's survival adventure, The Flame in the Flood.
The Microsoft Gaming CEO elaborated on this a little bit back in 2020, telling the Talking Games With Reggie And Harold podcast that he really enjoyed the work that musician Chuck Ragan did on the game:
"It's interesting, because that answer will be one and the same for me right now. Chuck Ragan is a musician who did a soundtrack for a game called The Flame in the Flood, which is a couple of years old now. But I started playing it again and it's a really great soundtrack. It's on Spotify, and I'd highly recommend people listen to it."
Beyond The Flame in the Flood, there are obviously loads of other games that have been getting shoutouts in the comments, including the likes of Halo, The Witcher 3, Banjo-Kazooie, DOOM and so much more. This is a question that's very, very hard to answer, but which games would you personally like to shout out? Tell us down below!
Do you agree with Phil Spencer's thoughts here? What's your top soundtrack? Tell us in the comments!

I bought that in a sale but never got around to it. Love a good soundtrack. Too many to choose a favourite, Final Fantasy VI, Journey, VVVVVV, Hotline Miami, Skyrim, Mario Galaxy, Xenoblade Chronicles, Halo 3... the list is endless and bountiful.
I see that poor Phil still not played FFXVI or even Persona 5 Royal 😁
Both Ori games and Nier Automata for me
Xenoblade games have the best soundtracks ever, IMO. Elden Ring and other souls games are very good also. Not to mention any Koji Kondo work and the OST of Hollow Knight
@Desy64 hollow knight is great, I still can remember the soundtracks
Skyrim still takes the cake for me.
*disclaimer, as a classical guitarist and classical music nerd that plays A lot of lute music I'm biased 🙃
@BrilliantBill
The Gregorian Chanting was really neat to see incorporated, especially for the targeted demographic, but not that great in the grand scheme/ my opinion and all that
Skyrim is definitely one of the best. Also Mass Effect, Splinter Cell Chaos Theory and Halo 2.
It seems Mr. Spencer has never heard of our friends over at Super Giant Games! 😃
Four Monkey Island games and Grim Fandango are playable on Xbox, so that brings their soundtracks into the competition. Honorable mentions to Full Throttle and Day of the Tentacle.
@Westernwolf4 RIGHT! Bastion, Transistor, and Hades rank in the top for me for music.
