Alan Wake 2 may have only just landed, but developer Remedy is already full steam ahead on future projects. Control 2 is in the works over at the Finnish developer, but it's the Max Payne remakes that seem to be progressing quickly as the team provides a fresh update on the project.
Remedy is going back and completely remaking Max Payne 1 & 2, and thanks to a new financial report post-Alan Wake 2, we have an update on how things are progressing. Here's what the team had to say about Max Payne:
"Max Payne 1&2 remake progressed into the production readiness stage. We have gained clarity on the style and scope of the game, and we have an exceptionally well-organized team working on it. With these accomplishments, we are excited about the project and its future success."
The two Max Payne remakes were first announced back in April 2022, and given that the team will have been well into Alan Wake 2 development at that stage, it makes sense that this project still has a ways to go yet. Still, it's nice to get a new update!
As for one of the team's other major titles, Control 2 is currently in the "proof-of-concept stage" and the team has "seen good progress" with development on the highly-anticipated sequel so far.

I loved this series a long time ago. I would for sure give these a try. I hope they do them right and take their time.
The original max payne is one of my favourite games of all time I loved it
I liked MP 1 & 2 but I felt Rockstar took the Franchise to the next level - even if it many felt dismayed that Remedy weren't at the helm.
I'd be interested in a proper full on Remake of the first 2 in one package but I am more expecting more of port with minor upgrades (higher res, higher LoD's/textures etc) at best.
Hopefully it will exceed expectations....
So is this gonna be both games,in one face gurning package
More remakes?
I would buy these… love my bullet time!
I adored Max Payne 1 but didn't really play anything else in the series. I suppose I can wait for these instead of buying the originals on xbox
Control 2 is what I am looking forward to the most. I did enjoy the little nod to Control at the start of Alan Wake 2... 😊
Two of my favorite games of all time, but this was announced in early 2022 and they're just now in the production stage? Good Lord, this is at least three years away. I might just cancel the whole project. We'll see.
@HonestHick there's a zero percent chance, that I will miss these remakes!
@NintendoByNature most people think Max Payne 2 was the best in series. Although i personally think 1 was. 3 was very mixed reviews, becuase it is so vastly different of a game than 1 and 2. I do like 3 though as well.
@Fiendish-Beaver control and Max Payne were my favorite remedy games. Control 2 should be fire!
@Lostitall yea, it was truly amazing for its time. I could always grab 3 and check it out in the mean time.
@Lostitall yeah same here. Really looking forward to what they can and will do with it. Could be really great. I played them moons ago on PC.
@Lup Yep. Feels like almost everything AAA since the Xbox One/PS4 Gen has just been remasters 'n the like or continuations of things that started on 360/PS3, outside a handful of examples both good and bad. Part of the reason Indies & smaller projects have gotten so much attention in recent years.
Agreed, @Lostitall. I cannot wait for the release of Control 2. I don't think Remedy have ever let me down, and I have played most of their games during the past 20 years...
