The next Starfield update is on the horizon! Bethesda has today revealed what'll be included with Starfield Update 1.8.83 when it arrives later this month, and PC players can even start accessing it today with the Starfield Steam Beta.
In terms of highlights, the biggest is probably DLSS support on PC, while another includes the ability to ingest food and drink items you find in the environment! There are also some welcome graphics improvements in the patch notes.
NVIDIA DLSS SUPPORT
"This update introduces Nvidia DLSS support for our PC players. Compatible Nvidia graphic cards can now use DLSS Super Resolution, Deep Learning Anti-aliasing (DLAA), Nvidia Reflex Low Latency, and DLSS Frame generation. Please note: While DLSS Frame Generation is active, VSync needs to be toggled OFF to see the benefit. We are working to automatically adjust this setting in a future update."
LET THEM EAT!
"By popular request, we have added the ability to ingest food and drink items upon finding them in the environment. You can enjoy those Chunks immediately or save them for later. The choice is yours."
As mentioned, PC players can access Starfield Update 1.8.83 right now on Steam via the Beta, which involves right-clicking on Starfield and going to "Properties", followed by "Betas". The caveat is that if you create a new save in the Beta version of the game, it won't work in the main game until the update goes live for everyone.
We'll throw the full patch notes (so far) for Starfield Update 1.8.83 down below. In terms of the release date for all Xbox and PC players, there isn't one as of yet - all we know is that it's coming "later this month".

good game not a great game but i got what i wanted out of it.
as with most games now days play at launch you play the worst version of the game
Im at the end of my 3rd run of the game on series x and s. When ever I do a 4th run (not sure if I will finally take a break yet) it will be on PC to play around with the Nvidia dlss and GPU optimization setting
Ah yes. That eat button will be awesome. Now if they make it so you can skip he temple puzzles after the first one.
"Adjusted stealth to be a bit more forgiving." I would hope so - even with maxed out Skills & benefits it feels completely worthless. Makes the Ryujin Questline something I'll never wanna touch on another playthrough.
Ammo transfer needs to be sped up between companions. Currently, 1 ammo is moved at a time for both left stick and down stick. Should make down stick transfer 100 at a time?
@trev666 I've never been as frustrated with a game as starfield I enjoyed it but damn talk about a love hate relationship one minute its great the next minute its terrible 😆
No 60fps mode on Xbox. Thanks for Gamepass not wasted my money
@Muddy that was never on the cards.
Some good updates and improvements.
But Bethesda please make your next game on a modern engine with less and quicker loading times.
Develop better systems and inventory GUI etc.
Wonder if they will now Switch to Unreal 5 for ES6.
Fixed an issue where the ship services technician might be missing.
Finally!
Hopefully the technician in Neon will finish up his swim in the ocean and return to work. He has been there for ages. I have a package to deliver.
So here's my rant. This is a good start. Get the technical issues out of the way and then hopefully they can focus on fixing the rest of the game. For instance, make it fun. Seriously, I joke, but this game needs things happening in planets between waypoints. If I have to manually walk a mile or more from that "defunct robot factory" to that "landmark anomaly" then fine, but something either needs to be added between those destinations like a random encounter or add a galaxy wide radio station broadcast akin to the Fallout games. This game is so boring when you're out trying to explore.
Starfield also desperately needs build diversity. Give me more than 3 energy weapons since everything is all ballistics. Sure you have 10,000 different types of ammunition but theyre all ballistics and they could have easy just been 5 different ballistic types. So more guns that aren't ballistics please. Melee needs to be redesigned as well since everything technically functions the same and there is no difference between a baton and anything else you can wield. Please God, fix the perk chark! That's the biggest snooze fest of all. This NASA punk esthetic is so dull and drab and thats fine if it's what they want but the perks shouldn't also reflect that.
I fall asleep when playing this but I don't have to, it can become a better game if THEY fix it, not the modders. I low-key feel like this game needs a relaunch of sorts like Cyberpunk and No Man's Sky got. Starfield is good no doubt, but there's no excuse why it's not great.
Added the ability to adjust HDR Brightness provided that the system supports it. (Xbox & Windows 11 only).
I'm sorry, what? Windows 10 supports HDR just fine. Is there a reason they're omitting it?
Anyone else experience Vasco appearing in ship through the floor. Happens on all my ships except the first one?!
@all3forever yes. 1000 times yes. I hate these "puzzles" an unreasonable amount.
@Aniscape This has been happening to me as well. Figured it was from me having refused any updates/patches so far because, you know, Bethesda being all about player freedom and all.
@JokerBoy422 The exploration thing was telegraphed as being potentially...sparse...long before release. Starfield was proclaimed as "NASA-punk" and not "Mass Effect"-like. There are hundreds of desolate planets with little chance of civilization or remnants of ancient civilizations, human or otherwise. The people who were expecting Oblivion/Skyrim-level exploration...I don't even know what to say about that.
Bethesda can add more varied POI and some kind of dynamic events, I suppose. Those will be opportunities for me to die as I limp back to my ship with no health or stamina, and pockets full of rocks and ship parts. Some sort of mechanical mule or delivery service would be nice. We'll see about rovers down the line.
@JokerBoy422 That's fair criticism... unlike what we read around here at launch, likely people from other sites that hadn't played the game.
@theduckofdeath I wonder if they'll release a 60fps patch for Series X in a year or so, or if it will have to wait until the next console. Skyrim received a nice technical update on Series X.
@theduckofdeath yeah I totally agree. They did tell us it would be empty but I guess it just hits different when youre walking in a straight line and there's nothing at all to do, see, or hear until you reach your destination. Even if it meant I might struggle with difficulty or something I'd take it. If I was low health and something killed me at least it was a point of engagement where I felt like I did something that mattered enough that it got me killed. It also adds an amount of a rewarding feeling when I finally make it to my destination. Like I accomplished something no matter how small it was.
@Banjo- dude I championed this game on release but the longer I spent with it the more I realized most the criticisms were warranted.
@Grunt companions have infinite ammo as long as they have at least one unit of ammo for their weapon in their inventory.
@Banjo- That is a topic that makes me curious, also. I wonder what concessions would need to be made to so the game could run at or close to 60 fps on console. The lighting system seems to demand significant clock cycles.
@Grunt use LB and RB to scroll a bunch at once. On xbox.
@Agamembar oh my I wonder how tired he will be from his 2 month swim? Lol
@theduckofdeath Good point. At least, they wouldn't charge us again for a remaster remastered...
So I apologize for replying to a comment that had already been replied to. I am on a cell phone and didn't realize the replies on this comment page show up at the bottom, not attached to the comment that you are replying to. Thank you all for your understanding.
@Banjo- you didn't enjoy purchasing Skyrim 10 times? I thought that was a blast!
@Moross1081 No, actually, I haven't purchased Skyrim, I only got it for Series X on Game Pass 🤣. I watched a Digital Foundry about the technical differences. You have a point about it but not now that Bethesda is part of Microsoft. I have only been charged again for basic Wii U ports during the same generation on Switch and for remasters on PS4 😅. The best thing about Xbox in my opinion is the backwards compatibility, free upgrades and free cross-gen and cross-platform (Xbox and PC) cloud saves. I'm a bit tired of how the other two handle the "generations".
@Banjo- oh I may have come across wrong. I love my xbox. Only turn on my ps5 occasionally. Turn on my switch even less. PC gaming is probably second in my household, but everyone has a series X. Love Gamepass, and game sharing! Me, my son, and my wife all game together. It's nice being able to buy 1 copy of a game and both me and my son have it and play it together. But as far as Skyrim goes..... I bought that game so many times on so many different platforms I lost count. Haha. My own doing. I was just goofing off with my statement.
@Moross1081 No worries, I understood you, and you are right, Skyrim has been re-released tons of times. I just couldn't help comparing possible updates for Starfield with things like The Last of Us Remaster Remastered or Mario Kart 8+DLC1 same-gen port+DLC2 without mentioning them specifically 🤣. Honestly, I can't appreciate enough how reassuring everything is on Xbox. On other consoles, you have to purchase the same games again and won't be able to use your save files anyway. That's the real system seller, for me, at least.
Good to see continuing support.
I wish some of this had been present on release.
I'm personally finished with this game, got 120 hours of entertainment and that's fine for me, but continual improvement is great to see!
@makk_zucc The fact that you have to find the temples and do the puzzle 260 times in order to max all powers is insane. I have no idea why they approved this. I picked them all up once and was done with them. And even that was a chore. One of the few gripes I have with the game btw.
On my 4th loop but waiting for DLC.
@all3forever 260 times? Ican't tell if you're exaggerating... I didn't even get them all once as I got so frustrated floating around. The first time I thought 'this is quite cool'. After about 10 goes I thought never again. I really enjoyed my 90hrs with the game, but this became an unnecessary chore (the whole process of finding the powers, to be honest)
@LaurenceJ1987 I'm not. It's 26 powers and you have to find them 10 times each over the course of ten ng+ runs to fully upgrade them. The temples also appear on random planets each playthrough...
@BIG3 Good grief
