Alan Wake 2 is officially out in the wild on Xbox, which means a few of us here at Pure Xbox HQ have been putting some time into Remedy's new survival horror adventure.
And, since there's been some drama surrounding the game's performance on Xbox Series S, and how that version lacks a 60FPS mode, we thought we'd grab some raw footage of the game running on Microsoft's all-digital machine to show you how it's looking so far.
We haven't had chance to go through each version and a do a full video comparison, but if you want to hear some general thoughts on the game from one of us who's played it on Xbox Series X and PC, you can read our full written review of Alan Wake 2 down below.
Are you impressed with how Xbox Series S is handling Alan Wake 2? Tell us your thoughts in the comments section.

While I am sure some people will be eye-rolling this and calling for Microsoft to ditch Series S (because, "OMG only 30fps"), but all signs are pointing to a perfectly paced and locked 30fps - which is really the one thing that makes 30fps feel great.
This is also touted as one of the most visually impressive games of the current generation.
Well done on the technical achievement Remedy!
I plan to play this at 30fps on Series X!
@GamingFan4Lyf Indeed. Other analyses have shown it runs at the exact same internal resolution at 30fps on Series S as the Series X does in performance mode at 60fps.

@GamingFan4Lyf well said.
@themightyant I think, what's even more impressive is that, for a game to run at such a locked framerate, there needs to be a performance overhead.
So not only has Remedy managed to perfectly lock down Series S, the machine isn't' technically being pushed to the breaking point.
That will do for me any idea of resolution?
@ebony-shabba Analysis seems to point to 850p and upscaled to 1440p using (I believe) FSR 2.0.
It can run on the Series S?
Guess you have turn everything off and only run it in black and white?
Just wondering. How come it's fine for Alan Wake 2 to run at 30fps no complaints, but Starfield is trash for the same reason. Fyi, I prefer Alan Wake.
@jedinite these things bother me too. Exceptions are made for reasons I'll never understand.
@jedinite Alan Wake 2 can do 60fps on PS5 and SX and not only that Starfield while pretty at times is hardly groundbreaking while Alan Wake 2 has some of the best visuals in gaming to the point its a miracle a 60fps mode is even possible on PS5 and SX.
When Spider-Man 2 can do 60fps with the best RT in console gaming, have zero loading with a completely seamless world with insanely fast transversal speeds it really drives home the fact the biggest Xbox game in years is locked at 30fps with no RT in a world cut up by loading screens on the most powerful console ever. I love Starfield but let's not defend the 30fps and technical shortcomings when games like Spidey 2, Baldur's Gate 3 and Alan Wake 2 are pushing gaming forward and released in the same timespan as Starfield.
@GamingFan4Lyf thanks guess I'll be playing with settings set to 1080p to get the best out of the display
@GuyinPA75 Firstly, did you not watch the video, your comment makes no sense... Secondly, who actually liked your comment? 🤔
@RetroMan71 My guess? Someone that agrees the Series S is and was a mistake and without a doubt holding the Series X back.
@GuyinPA75 Meh! I personally think 60fps looks unnaturally smooth, depending on the game. It's like that Smooth Motion feature on your TV, certain films just don't look right, camera panning is just too smooth.... which is why I make sure it is off.
@RetroMan71 Soap Opera Effect. I do agree 110% with you. From my experience the worst ones are the games that have 60 fps added later.
The whole 60 fps argument I find silly. People that demand 60 fps or not play are the video game equivalent of, oh no I only eat vegan.
@GuyinPA75 Agreed! Oh and apologies for my first reply about your Series S comment. It came across quite combative.
