The Xbox Series S has proven to be a huge hit for Microsoft this generation, bringing in sales from many consumers who may not have even considered the high-end Series X model. Unfortunately, though, it seems customers located in Brazil will soon have to pay more for this particular unit.
As highlighted by the Brazillian outlet The Enemy, Microsoft has recently confirmed it will be increasing the suggested retail price of the Xbox Series S Robot White 512 GB model in this market:
Microsoft: "In the coming weeks, we will begin to communicate price adjustments for Xbox Series S consoles in Brazil."
According to the source, the cost of this model will apparently jump from R$2000 - R$2500 to R$3,599, which reportedly puts it in the same price bracket as PlayStation 5's digital model in this location. It's also noted how this won't impact the price of the XSS Carbon Black 1 TB model.
The Xbox Series S originally made its debut alongside the Xbox Series X in November 2020 as the "smallest Xbox ever". It comes packed with Xbox's velocity architecture, a custom NVME SSD, HDR, has a resolution of 1440p, and targets up to 120 FPS.
There is no mention of price adjustments in other regions at this point in time, but if there's an update, we'll let you know.

Thats....not smart, brazil have a big fanbase for xbox...how to reward them? Giving them a less powerful console with same price? Whyy?
Im a fan of xbox....but im so not trusting them or any company when they are on top, i just hope they dont make gaming more expensive than it is and rise prices left and right
Does Brazil have soaring inflation right now? Changes in exchange rates? Etc? Because if not I hope it isn’t something that will follow elsewhere.
For it to be Brazil only it would have to be some sort of reason that is only currently affecting Brazil.
Wowza. Same price as something orders more powerful that commands a larger fanbase and market share?
How long until Microsoft announces they're pulling out of Brazil due to poor sales? 😂
“Hey Brazil, many thanks for approving our acquisition of Activision Blizzard, please take a price increase as your reward”

Oh dear…
@PsBoxSwitchOwner nope! No soaring inflantion, the exchange rate has been relatively stable for a while, nothing out of ordinary in the Brazilian economy. Argentina is the one that has been struggling with those issues.
If I had to make a guess, this price hike is happening now because Brazil was spared from the hike that took place in other markets back in August: https://www.theverge.com/2023/6/21/23768400/microsoft-xbox-series-x-xbox-game-pass-price-increase
I belive they held the price in Brazil for a bit longer, but were never planning to hold it forever. Fortunately there is no mention of raising the price of the Series X at the moment.
@RazputinAquato Those price increases were for the Series X only, this is the Series S getting a price increase and it even states in the article you linked that the S won't be getting a price increase.
It's actually a strange one. Are they trying to kill the console sales in Brazil because it's not profitable there anyway or do they actually believe that Brazilians will still pay it just to get access to GamePass. Could it be a bluff to sell more? Like they pretend they're going to increase the price so everyone runs out and buys one and then just before it's supposed to increase they backtrack or something. Its definitely a head scratcher.
A very strange move, then again Microsoft don’t seem that bothered about consoles sales or so they tell us, so maybe it just doesn’t matter to them that much.
So maybe sell less consoles but at least don’t lose any money on each console sale.
I think that’s more been a Nintendo strategy throughout the years not to sell a console at a loss.
I had to smile, sorry my fellow Brazilian Xbox gamers as I’ve had some hard debates on here with a few Brazilian die hard Xbox fans that defended the series s and that it gave them a cheapish access to the gaming world and Xbox could do no wrong and were gods.
There’s your real Xbox love back at ya.
@PsBoxSwitchOwner unfortunately the actual president of Brazil is creating a a huge amount of taxes in many areas, there is a projection of a big inflation soon and the Xbox may not be the only one affected. Even Steam games prices got a increase of 160% . The future here seems worrisome.
What's with the Xbox haters flocking to these comments? It's really weird.
I'm Brazilian and already have my Xbox so this price increase won't affect me but man, what a stupid decision...
In Brazil Playstation is the king, Xbox is the second and Nintendo comes in third. Just for information, until yesterday a PS4 (yes folks, PS Four!) was more expensive (R$3000 = U$600) than a XSS (R$2000 = U$400) and many people still choose PS4 because the brand is extremely strong here. Xbox was growing during this generation mainly because the combination of XSS+Gamepass. Now, MS got rid of their only leverage, the price.
Could possibly be a test market. Series S selling better than X so let's test what happens when we raise its price. If it's received well then rest of the world follows suit?
Risky strategy to price it the same as PS5 Digital.
@StonyKL Brazil wouldn't make for a good test market as thanks to a history of tariffs and import taxes aimed at foreign electronics, it has a completely unique gaming ecosystem.
@Foxx_64740
That’s very interesting information.
So basically Brazil is PlayStation territory but Xbox was making some in roads with series s and gamepass because of a nice price, but have now just undone all that good work and handed the territory back to Sony.
@JayJ Think articles like this always will.
That said, I'm someone who loves Game Pass and my Series X (check my comment history) and this seems a really dumb move - PS5 Digital is obviously more at the Series X level so to bring the Series S nearer to it in price seems self-defeating.
I really hope they'll be advertising the consoles hard this Christmas and doing some seriously good deals as the PS5 is starting to reach PS4 levels of dominance now stock is sorted and when that happens less developers / publishers think it's worth the expense of porting to Xbox...
Fingers crossed they're now in a position to start turning things around - decisions like this don't help though
Maybe they are just phasing out the 512 model.
@TakeItEasy
Honestly, my company does business in Brazil and it is difficult to keep prices low for foreign companies. If you are not manufacturing your product in Brazil there is a ton of taxes and protectionist things that drive the price of goods in Brazil up exponentially.
I would guess that there are not enough XBoxes sold in Brazil to justify manufacturing there so between foreign import, foreign electronics, and other foreign taxes, not to mention the very high US dollar cost to bring them in, they were forced to increase the price.
Less powerful console for the same price as a PS5?!?! The is won't come back to bight Microsoft or anything.
So what is the price of the new 1TB Series S? The source article says that price won't be affected. If the price of the newer version is near where the original price was at, then this kind of becomes much ado about nothing. It still seems dumb, since you would think they would want to sell off whatever stock is still around of the original.
I've boungh an Series S last year because it was half the price of an Series X or PS5. Maybe it's just Microsoft trying to sell more Series X instead os S, but in Brazil (and I guess elsewhere) it might backfire and give PS5 a boot.

Get the **** outta here, no sympathy for greedy corpos, mofos were the only a bit affordable way into modern gaming for br players
imagine the backlash that MS would get if they increased the price of the console by 200usd in the US. Looks like they don't really care about the brazilian market.
