Earlier this summer, we caught wind of a brand-new project in the works between Microsoft and People Can Fly, thanks to a Polish business site that spotted the collaboration. While the Xbox owner hasn't officially confirmed the title since, a new job post from People Can Fly once again mentions the mystery project.
The collab is known as 'Project Maverick' at the time of writing, and a new job listing at developer People Can Fly calls it "A Triple-A game developed in collaboration with Microsoft". Here's a snippet from the post:
"Our creative teams are currently working on several exciting titles: Gemini is our new project being developed with Square Enix; Maverick is a Triple-A game developed in collaboration with Microsoft Corporation; Bifrost, Victoria and Dagger are projects we're growing in the self-publishing model.
Project Maverick is an unannounced AAA game developed with Microsoft. Game development is done by our European and North American teams."
We don't know much else about the title just yet, but the initial report from June 2023 did state that the project had been allocated somewhere between 30 to 50 million dollars in budget. Again, that number isn't confirmed, but Project Maverick does sound triple A in nature going off the few mentions of its existence so far.
People Can Fly is the team behind titles like Bulletstorm, Gears of War: Judgment and Outriders; which spent a good chunk of time on Xbox Game Pass - so it's safe to say the Polish team has history with Microsoft. We'll bring news on when Maverick is officially announced by Team Xbox!
Are you excited to see what People Can Fly get up to with Project Maverick? Let us know in the comments!

Excited - No, Interested - Yes...
Its far too early to be excited by something I have absolutely no idea what it is, whether it will 'appeal' to me and certainly not seen anything of the Game to know if its something I want to spend my time in.
I don't get 'excited' for anything until its 'nearly' ready to release at the earliest. Up until that point, I either have maintained or lost interest based on finding out more in the run up to release...
People can Fly is known for some pretty high octane games. I'm curious as to what it is
I enjoyed Outriders and the expansion. Will keep an eye out for more news on this.
@Moonglow From my perspective - its been a decent year, better than last year for sure, but again its more about setting up the long term prospects than benefitting 'us' as Gamers this year.
In 2018 for example, we had 8 new Studios added - Playground, Ninja Theory, Undead Labs and Compulsion games - as well as creating the Initiative were added at E3, then they added inXile, Double Fine and Obsidian. We are still 'waiting' really for these to show what they can do now as First Party developers.
We are still waiting to see anything about other partnerships - like Avalanche's Contraband or Kojimas 'Cloud' game. Let alone games like Fable, Hellblade 2, Perfect Dark, State of Decay 3, Avowed etc that we know have been in development for a while.
Its all 'potential' right now for the future. This may not release for a good few years so its not benefiting us now - other than reassuring us that MS will have Games coming in the future. I am far less concerned about the Xbox future than I am currently feeling about Playstation as games like Marathon, FairGames, FoamStarz, Helldivers 2, Final Fantasy etc don't appeal to me and Wolverine is the 'only' officially announced game I have any interest in but I don't really think its been a Fantastic 2023 for Xbox Fans and 2021 I feel was better - although I do think the Future looks brighter and 2024 could be a great year....
Is the Square Enix game FF14, octopath Traveller 2 or something else?
@BrilliantBill That is your 'personal' opinion based on what you prefer to play.
Flight Simulator may be not everyone's idea of a 'Game', but its still one of the oldest Gaming IP's and is still the 'game' I would say that is 'truly' next gen. Whether you like games like H:I (It still had critical acclaim and the majority of complaints was they couldn't keep up with the demand for post release content), Forza Horizon 5 (which is an 'Arcade' racer not the more 'niche' Sim style), HiFi Rush, Pentiment, Grounded, Psychonauts 2, Age of Empires 4, Gears Tactics etc as well as continued support for Sea of Thieves, Gears (Hivebusters was a decent DLC campaign), Forza etc too.
This year alone they have at least 4 'released' games with only 1 being 'average' in the Metacritic critical scoring - Redfall. The rest are above Average - Hifi Rush, Starfield & Forza Motorsport all 80+ rated games - as well as Games like Goldeneye, AoE2, Ghostwire etc all releasing this year on Xbox too.
The 4 a year that MS want to bring will NOT all be Exclusive - take Call of Duty as an Example as that WILL be on Playstation too but will certainly be one of the 'big' first party games coming to Game Pass day 1. Even Starfield isn't 'Console' exclusive as it can be played on a Steam Deck - a hand held console.
All MS said was that want to be releasing at least 4 'big' games a year that will be on Game Pass day/date - whether they are Exclusives or Not. I haven't mentioned Minecraft but they have released both Dungeons and Legends as well as updates to Minecraft - still First Party releases and the biggest selling Game MS has - but you won't count that because its not exclusive or 'big'.
Also, considering the 'size' of Xbox gaming to ABK, MS's output is far more productive than Activision and Blizzard Combined.
Microsoft's pipeline for XB looks very good. Tons of games coming! And now with ABK it gets even better being a GamePass subscriber.
Curious as to what it is. I did enjoy Outriders and played alot of it during the COVID shutdown.
They should buy this studio they put out some solid releases.
@BrilliantBill I think that is reasonable with consideration of the amount of studios MS/Xbox owns now and the projects already in the pipe. Say 1 or two big games a year. I will assume we are ruling out CoD and sports/racing games, unfair as that may be. 😄
I put a LOT of hours into Outriders. Loved Bulletstorm when it first released, and I'm the guy that actually enjoyed Gears of War Judgement. 😉
I am highly interested in anything that PCF make having enjoyed their past games. If they are revisiting any of their past games in terms of a sequel, then definitely Outriders is the sequel that I would most like to see, and it is absolutely a universe that could be expanded upon.
Either way, sequel or new IP, I'm intrigued to see what they come up with next...
Bulletstorm and Outriders are two of my most enjoyed games I've played, loved them both.
PeopleCanFly are seriously very talented, I'm excited!
Another Outriders game ?
