We've got a surprise addition to the Xbox Free Play Days lineup! It's been announced today that a special 10-hour free trial for Diablo 4 will be available from October 19-22 for all Xbox members - even non-Game Pass subscribers!
The news was confirmed on the official Xbox Wire blog earlier today with the following message:
"Additionally, Diablo IV is free for all Xbox members from October 19 until October 22 (Game Pass Core / Game Pass Ultimate not required) with a 10-hour gameplay trial."
This might have actually been revealed a little too early, as we're not seeing an option to download the Diablo 4 trial as of yet. When it becomes available, you should see it on the game's Xbox Store page.
Update: It's now live on the Xbox Store! Here's how to download the Diablo 4 free trial on Xbox:
- Go to the Microsoft Store app on your Xbox console
- Press the Y button and then search for "Diablo IV"
- Pick any version of the game (Standard, Ultimate, etc)
- Scroll down to "In This Bundle" and choose "Diablo IV"
- You should now see a button saying "Free Trial, Download Now"
We're expecting Diablo 4 to hit Xbox Game Pass at some point as well, but Blizzard has stated it won't be until at least 2024. So, if you're wondering whether it's worth a purchase in the meantime, this is a great way to find out!
Will you be diving into Diablo 4 this weekend? Tell us down in the comments section below.

With all the ill will they've garnered from how they've treated the game post launch, gonna take way more than this to get people to buy it.
Played the beta enough to get the gift, and had fun. But woo boy, the game would have to be near free for me to pick up in it's current state.
A shame too because Diablo was always a staple for my dad, sister, and I. Up until that mess that was 3.
I probably have more time in Diablo 2, pre remake, than most games.
It’s a shame; I’m interested but tomorrow sees Spider-Man 2 and Mario Wonder launch. I simply can’t see myself having time for a third option, let alone for one that’s a trial.
I’m sure this busy launch weekend is why Xbox did this though (and thank God Forza or Starfield isn’t also launching tomorrow).
I can’t say it enough: this has one of the best years in gaming in a long time.
I might just give this a go finally.
Thanks so much for the heads-up on this, Fraser
Also for the instructions on how to get the trial. Really, nothing obvious on the store page, but it is now downloading
@EvenStephen7 Hey don't worry, you can beat Spider-Man 2 in 10 hours. 😃
Eh I'm good on the Diablo 4 Seasons Simulator. I'm more interested in games with actual and substantial content and no time trials on Spider-Man don't count.
I think i'll try the demo been really curious about these
@Xeraphis Haha you know what? I kinda wish this was true/would be okay with it. I need to clear this year’s backlog, not keep adding to it! 😂
If this trial works like past one's you should be able to extend your gameplay past the 10 hour mark by signing into a new / different profile then going to the store page while signed into that profile and redeeming the free trial again then launch the game and while the game is running sign into your main profile and you should be able to keep going past 10 hours.
The reason this works is the game thinks you're using the the free trial time remaining of the new profile but in-game you're loading the saves of your main profile. This doesn't work with EA's 10 hour trials.
Season 2 is a blast. Just hit level 41 tonight. This seems easier to get to 100 and the enemy mobs are much more packed. Need to check my playtime but it was at 530 hours and 600 is around the corner. Diablo fan for life. Favorite game series ever. D4 is a blast and co-op in my clan is even more fun.
I borrowed Diablo 4 from my local library long enough to play through the campaign. Maybe it was because I played as a Necromancer, but the game was too much like a clicker time waster game for me to want to keep playing it. I basically ran around holding down the main attack button until I won. I don't understand why anyone would want to keep playing such a dull game.
@Serpentes420 Yeah even past Diablos were sort of like that, but for me this new one is just a bit more soulless. Even the graphics don't really impress me, it's just alright. The writing feels like it's not nearly as good as it used to be, and the gameplay just has more of a grindy feel to it.
