We've seen enough Xbox Series S negativity to last a lifetime in recent months with the whole Baldur's Gate 3 drama, but how about some positivity this week? Well, Assassin's Creed Mirage has just dropped, and Digital Foundry's initial look at the game has provided some lovely-looking results on Xbox Series X and S.
Both of Microsoft's current-gen consoles are impressive here - and both contain a 60FPS performance mode! Here are the figures for getting the game running at 60FPS on Xbox Series X and S:

"Generally, as you would expect, the 60fps mode trades resolution for frames. That means a drop to 1800p dynamic on PS5 and Series X, with 1440p as the lower bounds. As for Series S, it's a dynamic 1080p in this case, with 864p as the lower bounds,"
DF does remark that the Series S requires a "much more noticeable drop in image quality" to get to 60, but that it's "a fair trade to get the game running at 60FPS". However, a 30FPS option is always there for those who prefer a more pristine image.
"While targeting 30fps, the biggest dividing point is resolution. You get a dynamic 4K on PS5 and Series X, going down at occasional points to 1944p. On Series S we get a still-impressive dynamic 1620p, with a 1512p lower bounds."
Looking at the video up above, we think Mirage appears pretty impressive in all of its Xbox console modes, so whether 60FPS or a higher resolution floats your boat, AC Mirage is shaping up well! If you want to read up on our thoughts on the game itself, check out our full review down below.
Played any AC Mirage yet? Impressed by how it's turned out? Let us know in the comments!

Chasing 60frames per second is a joke.
Anyone who cares about 60fps isn't a real gamer.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with 30frames per second.
Hell, movies and tv are at 24 and those look fine!
And before anyone comes in with lag and multiplayer nonsense, thumbs and hand/mouse/keyboard can't move/be moved that fast to keep up naturally, it's why you have to adjust camera and pointer sensitivity.
If everything and everyone was at 30 you'd all be fine.
Thats quite impressive from Ubisoft. Especially on Series S.
With VRR TVs becoming more common I'm suprised there isn't a middle option for most games. I think 45fps (or there abouts) is a really good compromise for the series X
Mirage is basically a last-gen title, graphically speaking, so it isn't a huge surprise it can run well on Series S with a lower resolution target.
Although, I guess Ubisoft shipping a game in an acceptable state is something of a surprise.
@Spider-Kev some people have genuine issues. Especially with modern tvs. Some games are fine at 30fps, some work better at 60fps
Not that hard considering this looks like it was made for the Xbox One's launch
I beg anyone who is mildly curious with Mirage just buy a one month pass for Ubisoft+ (it's like $20 including the tax). You will be able to beat this short game in a weekend and paying $20 for a subpar game stings a lot less than paying $50
@BowsersBuddy
That's because outside of Rider's Republic Ubisoft hasn't pushed any of their teams on a technical level.
@johnK 45 fps is actually an awkward figure - 40fps is better as that is exactly half-way between 30fps and 60fps. 40fps also fits perfectly in a 120hz container too.
40fps or a frame every 25ms sits perfectly between 30fps (33.3ms for every frame) and 60fps (16.6ms per frame). 120hz is divisible by 60, by 40 and by 30 perfectly too. VRR isn't great for ALL platforms below 48ms either and is best used for 'inconsistent/unlocked' frame rate modes - ie a 60fps mode that can drop to the high 40's at times...
@Spider-Kev Watching a film at 24fps is very different to playing a game at 24fps. Modern TV's actually make lower framerates feel terrible, 30fps on a 120hz screen feels far worse then 30fps on a 60hz screen released 10 years back.
Genuinely looks brilliant! Can't fault anything about how the game performs at all, plus it's a fun game. Really looking forward to playing it even more.
Whilst I really do love the big open worlds, it's nice to have a smaller game that I know I won't be still playing months in advance. Takes the pressure off a bit.
@ZuneTattooGuy You think this is equal to AC4 visually? Yeah your opinion kinda looses all credibility right there.
@DennisReynolds
Other than the faces yes I do think every thing else about Mirage looks on par with Assassins' Creed 4 (btw that was an xbox 360 release not an xbox one)
W-what? But the Series S sucks... I'm not a lazy dev...
@ZuneTattooGuy AC4 was crossgen i own the PS4 version. Lighting, crowds, textures, the seamless world, animations, draw distance and so on are all way ahead of AC4 or even stuff like Far Cry 4, Ryse and Dead Rising 3. Also yeah Mirage would look like a X1 game because it is an X1 game, its a Crossgen release like Valhalla so it was never going to be jump in visuals like Unity was to AC4.
One thing ubisoft has going for it is R* level game engine optimsation. Watch Dogs Legion is one of the only AAA games on the Series S to have full RT in a game.
You can expect Skull and Bones to run well as the final game of the old gen engines used.
I expect thier new teardrop engine to run very well on Series S with the new Avatar game and Star Wars Outlaws next year.
I got the game today and played quality and FPS, quality does not drop too much but I do prefer playing FPS mode. It's nice little game very small download.
@Spider-Kev The most casual 30 fps enjoyer
The debate is a joke at this point
@Spider-Kev 30 fps gets me nauseated … it may not effect you but it does to a lot of other people
