Annapurna Interactive, iam8bit and Skybound Games have announced that Stray will officially be getting a physical version for Xbox in the near future, and it coincides with a permanent price drop for the retail version of the game.
The Xbox Series X version of Stray appears to ship on the disc, but it'll also be Smart Delivery compatible so you can play on Xbox One as well. Pre-orders start on October 3rd with shipments beginning in Q4 2023.

The new permanent retail price drop for Stray will bring it down to £24.99 in the UK, which we assume translates to $29.99 in the US. If you're wondering, that makes it the exact same price as the digital version on the Xbox Store.
If you're interested in picking up the physical version of Stray, we assume it'll be available at the likes of Amazon and GameStop in the coming weeks, but at the very least it'll be purchasable on the iam8bit website in early October.

Ah, just bought it physically on PS5 as I finally snagged the system for the upcoming Spider-Man. If they announced the Xbox physical earlier I would’ve gotten it there. Doesn’t matter, I suppose lol.
@FraserG Bomb Rush CyberFunk was also just announced to be getting a physical release from iam8bit. Preordered!
@Altaria_97 For physical games it’s actually better to buy them on PS5 since Microsoft seems VERY eager to get rid of physical media once and for all.
@IOI every console platform holder wants to get rid of physical media forever and has for at least the last decade.
@IOI PS5, the console that started the digital only alternative? Sony has been VERY keen to get rid of physical media for this entire generation lol.
Nintendo is probably the only console maker that is truly physical friendly.
@JayJ Remember Xbox One S All-Digital? The ONLY console without disc drive LAST console generation?
@Maccish Remember the PSP Go? The ONLY portable console that couldn't use physical media the generation before that?
Yeah, Sony jumped on that all-digital bandwagon before everyone else, heck they are pioneers of that direction.
Sony could have easily made the PS5 with only a disc drive, like the Series X, but they decided to push out an all-digital version because that is the direction they want to go in.
Face it, your beloved Sony is just as anti-physical as anyone else.
@JayJ Touché, i actually forgot about the PSP Go!
My beloved Sony? I own PS, Switch and Xbox, no fanboyism here.
But since they made one without optical drive, isn’t it better that it got the same hardware specs so it’s not holding the other one back?
I do have the Standard Version but i don’t own a single game on disc.
Nice to see the price drop. It'd suck if they released it at full price.
Tempted by the physical version, but I actually tend not to buy games physically any more as you have to still download loads onto the console anyway. I bought The Avengers cheap physically, and you still need to have 120Gb installed on the hard drive
They're pretty much collectors shelf pieces, or a way to buy second hand a little cheaper outside of sales. I'm saying this as someone with a DVD/Blu Ray/4K collection of over 1000 titles by the way.
