We've been waiting for news on Age of Empires 4's Xbox port for a while, and it's arrived today in the form of a surprise shadow drop! The game is now available for Xbox One, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S as part of Xbox Game Pass.
For those who aren't in the know, this is the most recent entry in the beloved strategy franchise which debuted back in January as part of PC Game Pass. Back then, we gave the game an "Excellent" 9/10 here at Pure Xbox, praising it as "easily one of the best Microsoft game releases of the year, and one that reminds us why we fell in love with the RTS genre in the first place".
We'll throw some more information and screenshots for Age of Empires 4 down below. The version arriving on Xbox Game Pass is the "Anniversary Edition", which includes a bunch of extra content that wasn't in the original release.
"Celebrating its first year of delighting millions of global players, the award-winning and best-selling strategy franchise continues with Age of Empires IV: Anniversary Edition, putting you at the center of even more epic historical battles that shaped the world."

Yesss! Only one that my computer could not handle!
Very nice indeed! Gotta get that installed asap.
I can’t keep up with all the games….. and all before Starfield … everyone wants to come out before it sucks up the universe…
Brilliant suprise
How weird both Humankind and AOE4 being shadow-dropped on Xbox consoles in the very same day without any notice!
Can’t wait to get it downloaded. Doesn’t appear to be in the store yet, been refreshing every two or three minutes.
That's awesome. Cuz I have like 4 mb of space left on my internal storage..../mourn
It's not available now
Isn't that humankind a similar kind of game lol...will download them both I guess and see
YES!!!! I was waiting for a release date but hell yeah, I’ll start playing it this weekend!!!
Preciously excellent.
@RazputinAquato that’ll be the fog of war I guess.
Nice! I really like Age of Empires IV! A really strong genre diversity game.
Runs smooth as butter at 4k/60
@StylesT it's kind of similar, but also very different... Humankind is a turn-based 4X in the same vein of Civilization. AOE is a Real Time Strategy game, more like Halo Wars.
But they're similar nonetheless, in the sense that they're both historical strategy games about forging empires...
