With just over 24 hours to go until the early access release of Starfield, Xbox has treated us to yet another free Dynamic Background today based on the epic RPG, and specifically based on its excellent cover art.
You can take a look at the new background via the tweet below:
Now admittedly, there's not much action to this Dynamic Background at all. In fact, you might even be fooled into thinking it's just a picture - if you look closely though, it's the stars in the image that gradually get lighter and dimmer. Nevertheless, it's still nice to get a new freebie ahead of Starfield's launch!
In related news, Bethesda's Todd Howard has also been sharing a few last-minute messages over the past few hours, including a lengthy internal memo (which has been revealed by Windows Central) along with a couple of comments for the various Starfield social media communities. Here's a look at his Reddit post:
So, it's time to activate that Dynamic Background! To do so, head to the "Settings" menu on your Xbox console, then go to "Personalisation" followed by "My Background" and then "Dynamic Backgrounds" - it'll be the first one in there.

Does this fix the store not opening? Not been able to access it since the new dash board dropped. Even a hard reset with clearing the system cache doesn't help.
I’ll stick with the Starfield dynamic background that came with the controller. It’s so clean.
(Also available with the headset)
I just checked yesterday if there was a one !!!
Sweet! I realize it's just good business 1st, but Todd Howard's thank yous actually come across as genuine. With how long he's been at this(which is rare, to stick with one company in this field) it does seem like true passion in his end
I was actually thinking about changing the background.
@InterceptorAlpha
If you're talking about the big purple rectangle store button (next to ads), then I fixed it by turning back on automatic updates to games and apps
I'm so hyped... game is pre-installed, computer drivers updated... need to install it on my Xbox and hope they have cross-save, for any day I feel like tolerating the terrible 30fps over tolerating my desk.
The new update showing games artwork killed dynamic backgrounds for me
I just tried the background, it's poor imo, as it's the same image as the store art, and also most of the visible content is at the bottom, covered by the home screens app and ad buttons. I can't believe they couldn't make a new top-heavy much better and more dynamic background for such a big game release. The dynamic background art team at Xbox HQ must be really really small or something. I'm switching back to the green glowing orbs dynamic background, it's quite good imo.
@Dragonsbane
I just played about 20 hours of Destiny 1 (Xbox at 30fps), and that's a heavy shooter, but it's fine, you just get used to it within about 3 mins. I wouldn't worry about it too much for Starfield.
@SAHgamer Nah. I can't access it there. But also the store button at the top. I also can't access it by selecting any of the ads, or selecting a game and pressing view in store.
Everything else works fine.
I like it but as with most of these, it isn’t all that “dynamic”.
@Moonglow but you’ll have the first class version of the game so I think you’re good
@SAHgamer yes your eyes get use to it (I played Andromeda for the first time 6 months ago) but even at 30fps I doubt it will be locked. Todd said that the framerate (when unlocked) in testing could go over 30 most of the time and even sometimes 60 (In space I guess). If true they could have at least put a 40fps/vrr mode with an unlocked framerate like Hogwarts Legacy did. We’ll see tomorrow with the reviews I guess
@InterceptorAlpha
Try a hard reboot, power off console, and pull the plug out the wall for like 2 mins. JC bless you
Will be interesting to see the fps on my tv with VRR and the series x set to 120hz all in game mode. As with lg TVs you can push the green button 6 times and see the fps on the tv display live as it’s running the game.
For example resident evil 4 remake shows about 114 to 118fps but I think that maybe the series x VRR with the tv doubling the 60fps because of the 120hz mode. Either way it is very smooth and clear in motion with no screen tearing.
@SAHgamer As stated in my original comment, already tried that. That's the process for clearing the system cache. Still nothing.
Kinda makes the new dash that more of a joke. Add riddled to get you to buy thing, but can't even access ths store.
