Some early footage of the upcoming Forza Motorsport reboot is starting to creep out of the Gamescom 2023 show floor, and we're rather impressed with what we're seeing here. Up above we have a short gameplay clip from a fan racing around the returning Mugello circuit, and it's all seen a massive upgrade on Xbox Series X.
The game's new ray traced global illumination is putting in work here, and we think this looks like a decent upgrade over any footage we've seen in recent months. Of course, the video quality isn't the best, but the Gamescom version of FM certainly looks like a more recent build than we've been seeing as of late.

That makes sense given that we're only about six weeks out from launch at this point. Forza Motorsport early access begins October 5th (before the Game Pass launch on Oct. 10), and if this footage is anything to go by, racing fanatics have plenty to look forward to on Xbox this fall.
Speaking of things to look forward to, we may be treated to some direct-from-source Forza footage this week as well. Xbox is planning on showcasing Forza Motorsport in some fashion during tomorrow's Gamescom livestream, so be on the look out for that! Details on the full livestream schedule are available down below.

Definitely looks better than the gameplay footage they previously showed.
I will never understand people who are playing ‘racing sims’ like these not in cockpit view though…. Looks so alien to me.
And I really want to see if ray tracing shows advantages with rear view mirrors… or if this gen is still going to off stripped down tracks etc in your mirror
@Bleachedsmiles Agreed. I still remember the first Forza dropping as a race Sim and didn't even include a cockpit view. Was super strange.
I'm expecting mirrors to work decently since it is a close track racer versus what Horizon 5 is.
What's concerning me is it being an online only, live service, that's already shown to lack content from prior games. And that they're adding them back as DLC on the live service side.
Really giving me Halo Infinite vibes in that regard and that's not a good thing.
Should be playable no excuses at all its still going be good though i just think Microsoft are hopeless at managing anything full stop
Starfield/Forza one-two punch. Absolute bonkers fall line-up!
Now this is more like it. Previous footage looked worse than GT7 but this looks very good. Excited for another sim racer in the mix and the long-awaited return of Forza Motorsports.
@J_Mo_Money Indeed, I think these two games will keep us going for a while. I'm really looking forward to Starfield but desperate for a decent racer to play as well 😎
The blue cars look terrible though? As in not even last gen? Or am I missing something here?
I’m not hating, I want this to be a great game. Gran Turismo 7 looks way better so far, though?
@Darude84 Video quality wasn't great to be fair 🤷♂️
@RetroMan71 Then how do people see the graphics are looking great?
Maybe it's the video quality but this game doesn't much better than Forza Motorsport 7 which will be 6 years old in October.
Maybe the visuals look a bit brighter and colourful. Don't really care as I love 7 and no doubt will love this too.

Am I the only one who thought that the graphics looks weird? Black edges to the cars made it look like some sort of comic book filter, or like a cell shaded game. I just dunno about this, perhaps it was the type of paint on the cars/time of day/odd stream. Didn't look real to me.
The lighting looks incredible!
@RetroMan71 yup. Sea of Stars was one i was REALLY looking forward to but it comes out next week (right before StarField) so it'll have to wait. Too many games.
@Darude84 It's off camera footage, thats why.
@Darude84 It's video on the internet. You will notice the audio doesn't sound so great, either.
All the footage I've seen is recorded from phones. That really does not show how the game will actually look due to phone quality of a video is very poor.
But I am still looking very, very forward to playing this in Oct.
This is the reason why Microsoft has the #1 racing game across all platforms, by a landslide.
@Darude84 It's clearly an off screen recording and not representative of the actual pixel and visual quality of the game. What can be somewhat perceived though is the physics and sounds of the game. Overall it looks fine. Wait for the 1:1 video captures of the gameplay surely to come. This is a convention.
Is that off someone’s phone?! Pretty naff quality video and doesn’t do the game any favours.
Still hopeful this will look the part - more footage/coverage scheduled for today I think.
I prefer Horizon but look forward to trying this out on Gamepass.
