Remedy Entertainment must be thinking about our limited spare time here, because the team has just delayed Alan Wake 2 by 10 days to allow for breathing room from other big launches. Yep, the game's release date has shifted from the 17th to the 27th of October to "give more space" for playing October 2023's lineup of games.
Remedy says that October in particular is "an amazing month for game launches" and it hopes this short release shift will allow everyone to "enjoy their favorite games" this fall.
Assassin's Creed Mirage, Lords Of The Fallen and Sony's Spider-Man 2 are all launching in October of this year, not to mention the super busy months of September and November as well. Alan Wake 2 might be wedged in there, but the team is hoping this new date will benefit us, and them, later this year.
You can now play the highly-anticipated Alan Wake sequel on October 27th for Xbox Series X and S.

No longer a birthday release for me.
Not sure why they would want to be 7 days after spider man and Mario instead of 3 days before. They aren't really getting out of the way of anything and still right in the thick of everything.
I really want to support Remedy & Alan Wake with a day 1 purchase, but the lack of a physical release means I'll be waiting for a big price drop.
Even with October's packed month full of releases, I would have picked this up.
Any word on if Remedy responded to THQ Nordic's offer to make a physical version available?
I do have a feeling that delaying it will just mean that it will get lost in the hype of Spiderman and Mario, and all the other games releasing across October. Assassin's Creed Mirage definitely did the right thing releasing earlier.
Should delay until November as Spider-Man, Mario and Assassin's Creed are going to greatly overshadow it
Even Spider-Man 2 had to get out of the way of Starfield… BG3 2024 - it’s very strategic when games are released
I've still not played the first one so I'm in no rush anyway. So as long as it's released by 2036 I'll be getting around to it then
There's no physical release...well that's crap ..would of been a day one rent....now I will either wait for a huge price drop or a physical to release one day
@DennisReynolds right into Modern Warfare III's path? I wouldn't.
The truth is that publishers can be as strategic as they like in regards to when they release their games, but between 1st September and November 30th on any given year, it doesn't matter when you release a product; it's always going to be competing with something else big releasing either just before, just after or at the same time as it.
@BacklogBrad They really want this game to fail. Epic Store only on pc, no physical versions on console, marketing focusing mainly on the woman character instead of Alan and now the release at a busy week.
Was hoping for the original release because id be able to get it on a decent discount during halloween. Guess i'll have to wait until black friday deals. Should be a good price at that point.
I know a lot of people are exited for this but as someone that has not played the first one, I’m very indifferent and a lot more excited about Alone in the Dark.
@Markatron84 I would rather go against MW3 then the combined might of Spidey, Mario and Assassin's Creed.
@DTfeartheBEARD I’m with you. Would have scooped day 1 if physical.
Based on what happened last year, any game released in October/November im just waiting for potential Black Friday sale.
@DJKingaling Yeah, it's unfortunate. I'm hoping at least Limited Run will step in and give it a physical release. I'd love to have Alan Wake Remastered on cart for Switch as well 🤞.
I can't see 10 days making much difference, personally. I'd imagine those that were gonna buy it day one would do so regardless. Personally, I'll be waiting to buy it further down the line as I'm sure I'll still be deep in the Starfield universe.
They can delay it to next year, I'm not willing to pay full price for a digital release.
@Markatron84 @DennisReynolds I feel like the hardcore Alan Wake 2 demographic is perhaps a bit different from the hardcore MW3 demographic, but maybe that’s just me?
I’m torn about this delay. Perhaps I’ll find time to blast through AC and maybe even Mario before jumping into this now (depending on Starfield, of course). But, on the other hand, it almost totally misses the Halloween window, unless it’s beatable in a couple days.
