We're very pleased to announce today that Hookshot Media has entered into a partnership with the Family Gaming Database, bringing new accessibility information to Pure Xbox as well as Nintendo Life and Push Square.
As part of this, you'll now begin to see accessibility information on certain Pure Xbox game pages and reviews, including details on subtitles, controls, gameplay assists, audio features and a whole lot more.
Here's how the Family Gaming Database describes this accessibility data:
"The Family Gaming Database’s accessibility data has been developed in collaboration with a wide range of experts, professionals and players with lived experience of disability. The database analysts review games against over 100 data points to check for effective features rather than just options in menus. For example, a game may offer subtitles, but are these of a suitable size and contrast to be useful for players?
Currently, the database has close to 1,400 games assessed and over 26,000 data points recorded. The partnership with Hookshot Media will further resource the work required and expand both the scope and accuracy of this dataset."
This feature has already begun rolling out to many game pages here at Pure Xbox (such as Diablo 4 as seen in the image above), and you'll also notice a slightly different look to those pages courtesy of a recent design refresh.
If you want to check out some more examples, we'll throw some below:
Hookshot Media Founder and CEO Anthony Dickens had the following to say earlier today:
“We wanted to provide accessibility information for our readers, but do more than simply listing the settings a game offers. The partnership with Family Gaming Database enables us to highlight games that offer well-designed accessibility that makes a real difference to players. We also link to their full accessibility report for the full picture.”
As always, let us know your thoughts down in the comments below!

That is a cool feature thank you
This is great. More info means we can make better informed decisions.
Really appreciate the site bringing us this.
Great initiative y'all 🙏
Win - I'm always in need of this info so I'm happy
Subtitles, difficulty, quick save all very useful
@FraserG (I know this wasn't down to you personally, but I wanted to make extra sure that staff saw this)
Thank you for this. As a visually impaired person, this feature is going to be so, so useful to me personally, and for anyone else with disabilities. Again, sincerely, thank you 😊
Can it be taken a step further to include things like couch coop, if so how many, frame rate supported, etc?
Quite a few have anxieties about playing online and issues with different frame rates causing nausea.
Resolution probably wouldn't be a bad one either as it is directly affects what you can see on the screen to begin with.
Wearing glasses for example, I can't play certain games with too low of resolution. I have to put my contacts in to be able to differentiate things. It isn't a issue with the prescription. It is because my prescription is so intense that while wearing gasses let me see, they shrink things compared to contacts.
@FraserG In your game profile pages, the Accessibility features list is, IMO, a bit low. Currently it shows
I understand if it's not viable, but I would love it if Accessibility was the second item in the list just under Overview, or at least the third after Reviews.
Also, many of the games in your database have no reviews or screenshots, but most the ones I spot-checked have accessibility info. Would also be nice if the Review/Screenshot section was hidden if they are not populated.
Not a feature I think I will personally use, but very happy it is there for parents and those wanting accessibility information on games. Well done!
@Dragonsbane You can just click 'Accessibility' on the horizontal sub-menu of each game to jump to it quickly.
@Markatron84 Very glad to hear it 😊
@Dragonsbane Thanks for your feedback! It's not something I handle personally but I'll pass your suggestions on 👍
Cool features that the community will get much from nice one team.
