You may have missed that as part of the Xbox Games Showcase 2023, Payday 3 was announced as coming to Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S on September 21st - included as part of Xbox Game Pass!
Following that reveal, we've been treated to our first developer diary on YouTube giving us a bit more information about what to expect from the game. It's been confirmed that Payday 3 will take place in New York City this time around, and the "biggest change" compared to Payday 2 is apparently "how the heist experience has evolved".

"In Payday 2, you have Stealth and then you have Loud, which is pretty binary, and that's something that we really wanted to flesh out and evolve. So, in Payday 3 you have Stealth, then you have something that we call Search, which essentially is - guards are looking for you, and they're suspicious.
And then you have something really interesting which is called Negotiations. So, first responders arrive to the scene, and if you have hostages, you can start trading them to buy time before the cops get in. Or, you can save the hostages for later because you can trade them for resources."
Something that's also been confirmed about Payday 3's arrival on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S is that the console and PC versions will be the same, so we should get an identical experience across Xbox and PC Game Pass. Both cross-play and cross-progression will also be available from day one.
It's sounding like a great addition to Microsoft's subscription service, then, especially considering it's already one of the most highly wishlisted titles on Steam! Just a few more months to wait...

Surely the Game would be the SAME on console as PC essentially. The vast majority of Games are with only 'minor' differences. If you have the PC hardware for example, you may get higher 'visual' settings and/or more frames per second, maybe lower settings on some PC's, but its still the same game.
I don't think we should see different versions - like we did with Battlefield back in the 360/PS3 era where Maps and player counts on those maps were smaller on Consoles - no 32 vs 32.
I am not excited for Payday 3 at all and have no interest in playing it even though I could 'try' it for Free via Game Pass. Its just not the sort of game I want or am interested in. I can see why its a 'good fit' for Game Pass, to fill up the player counts and friends can jump in together without everyone buying their own copy etc, but it doesn't appeal to me...
@BAMozzy I think what they mean is they won’t abandon the console versions. I heard a long time ago that the game was bad on consoles and that they stopped supporting it with patches/content but continued to support the PC version. So I’m assuming this is them saying they won’t do that again.
@CrispyMango92 I'm not a Fan of these type of games so I have no knowledge of how well (or not) they supported previous editions.
I do know that PD2 was a 360/PS3 release at the 'end' of that gen in 2013. A few years later, they released a PS4/XB1 edition with DLC etc and stated they wouldn't be supporting the 360/PS3 anymore due to limited Hardware, but I don't know how well the PS4/XB1 games were supported. It arrived before 'Pro/X' mid gen consoles released so I wouldn't necessarily expect them to patch in support for those - especially if the game wasn't all that popular by then.
I also thought the PC supported Mods - which would be an 'issue' on Consoles and parity but that is the only aspect I would have thought could be problematic in cross-play etc.
You also have to remember that in 2013 when PD2 released, Battlefield didn't support 32vs32 on Console for example, Mods, Cross-play and Cross-progression was unheard of etc. You couldn't even play games like CoD Ghosts cross-play between 360/XB1, between PS3/PS4 (same 'family'), let alone between PC, Xbox and Playstation. Even in 2015, that was 'not' a thing so I wouldn't expect them to have supported it.
@CrispyMango92 i assumed this is what the developers were referencing as well. It certainly wasn't a good look for them with the Payday 2 console versions not sharing parity with the PC version. And with cross-play and cross-progression being in play, parity across all versions is a must this time around.
@BAMozzy I'm primarily a console player with a group of friends. We had this game since the 360 version and it was not given updates or bug fixes. It's still a great game to my group and highly anticipating the better updates in 3.
@Hellrazr99 Again, I can totally understand why they perhaps opted to drop Support, fix bugs etc on the 360 version. Some of those could well be trying to get the game on such limited Hardware and being starved of necessary hardware resources.
I have NO IDEA how well supported the Crimewave Edition on XB1/PS4 was supported post launch, but that was already a 2yr old game by then and included all the updates and DLC...
@BAMozzy I didn't fully explain. We did upgrade to the X1 version as soon as it launched. We are excited PD3 will seemingly be addressed with greater developer interest on console post launch.
