We know you're looking forward to the Xbox Games Showcase 2023 as much as we are, and if you're interested in watching the show in style, it's been confirmed that 25 movie theaters in the U.S. will be showing the event for free.
Better yet, you'll even get $10 worth of snacks to use on whatever you want! All you need to do is sign up for Xbox FanFest and then look out for an email that should arrive in your inbox on Thursday, June 1st.
"To receive the ticket site and passcode for this event, sign up for Xbox FanFest by May 31 at xbox.com/fanfest. Ticket details will be sent on June 1 (ticket site opens June 2 @ 7am PT).
Tickets are free and will be on a first come, first served basis. (All attendees must be ages 18+, ID will be checked at the event). This theatrical experience will be streamed live in 1080i."
As mentioned, tickets will be available on a "first come, first served basis", so you'll need to be quick! The promotion is being run by Fathom Events, which has yet to reveal the list of movie theaters taking part.
If you'd rather stay at home to watch the Xbox Games Showcase this year, we'll be hosting it live here at Pure Xbox, complete with a chatroom so you can discuss it with the rest of the PX community. Just a couple of weeks to go!

Why? 😂
I suppose you get a free dinner, could be useful with the current cost of living
Microsoft really needs to deliver if it is going through this much effort for the event.
I'm guessing movie projectors don't do progressive scan and are interlaced, instead?
Sounds promising, they must be pretty confident in what they've got to show.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 who on earth would actually do this
@Chaudy well if you live next to one of the theatres I don't see why not. Now if you have to drive more than 15 minutes....hell no lol
Be nice if they'd actually list the theatres so I don't have to waste my time filling out all these forms if it won't even be near me...
they want to announce the 60 fps mode in a big way. im 100% convinced now.
Imagine the stench of people who would actually show up to this 😂
Everyone is invited to my house - free snacks and can watch on my plasma TV…. Options
If they Do this maybe they have something to show unlike Playstation noshow.
It would be awesome to see all the new controllers on a huge screen.
Damn, this almost sounds like they plan to really impress… don’t oversell this if you can’t deliver the goods, XBox…
Didn't Sony used to do the movie theater thing for their E3 shows back in 2013-2015 era? Funny if MS is taking a page from Sony's book while Sony's busy burning theirs.
And yeah, I doubt I'd set foot in a movie theater ever again in my life. The magic ended 20 years ago.
@BrilliantBill I mean, I haven't seen 1080i since the Xbox 360 days.
I can't fully explain the differences between interlaced and progressive scan - I think it has to do with a flicker effect on screen.
Here is a good article:
https://www.studiobinder.com/blog/interlaced-vs-progressive-scan/
But progressive scan has pretty much been the standard for ages - at least on TV's. Which makes me think using 1080i instead of 1080p has something to do with how the movie projector works.
@Kaloudz
I also saw Signs at the cinema... but I was high as f___ and can't remember any of the film.
I do remember try to negotiate my way down the stairs after the film... have you seen the scene in Wolf Of Wall Street where Jordan Belfort is trying to get to his car 😆😆😆 it was a bit like that!
I do also remember the commercials before the film...
One was an advert for British Telecom, which had Jarvis Cocker hanging from a lamppost.
The other was for a beer and had a minotaur in it.
Both quite entertaining when you're tripping b___s 😆
Don't do drugs kids... Just say no!
@GamingFan4Lyf It probably depends more on the transmission protocol they're using for the feed than the projector itself. For example ATSC broadcast (NA) before 3.0 generally had everything broadcast in either 720p or 1080i. Dramas and the like would broadcast in 720p@24-30Hz for better clarity, sports events and the like would broadcast in 1080i@60Hz so the action was smooth even if the picture is less clear.
I'm assuming whatever method they're using for streaming the live video to the theater (which isn't like the local storage used to show movies) is bandwidth constrained so that using 1080i allows them to show 60fps footage that wouldn't be possible at 720p (and/or 1080p is or isnt' even possible depending on what live feed tech particular theaters may have.) I assume all the hardware is based on broadcast technology (like sports and news crews use) so it may well be an older ATSC version using satellite uplinks or cellular), not like internet streaming.
The behind the curtain irony is it's all almost certain to be Sony hardware (hope the batteries last for the whole show...)
@BrilliantBill Yeah, of course still going back 20 years, but I'd watched one of the Harry Potters in IMAX. It was ok. I actually expected to be more impressed than I was. I wouldn't pay that money fro it again, and I'm sure it's double the price now lol.
That was all before they remade all the theaters into restaurants. Ewww. I wouldn't go if they paid me!
Im interested in
Diablo 4
Metal Gear Collection Vol 1 (maybe Vol 2 info)
Metal Gear Delta
Anything from Rare
Anything Persona related
I would love to go to one of these actually. Then again I've always liked going to the movies and I still do.

Because for many sharing this hobby we love is fun and in lieu of being able to got to E3 this is a close second.
Plus free snack… Though if the markup at US cinemas is anything like the UK $10 might only get you a stick of gum
@BrilliantBill
Be careful, there are a lot of fake IMAX theaters.
There's a reason they are called LieMAX
@Kaloudz
Fortunately I have been substance free since 2006... But, going to the cinema off my nut used to be a bit of a hobby!
I do NOT recommend watching the French film "Hidden" starring Juliet Binoche while mashed... although I was perfectly fine watching David Lynch's Eraserhead, so go figure! 😆
I also do not recommend answering the door while off your face... I did once and had what felt like an EXTREMELY long and very awkward conversation with some Jehovah's Witnesses 😆😆😆
I would be interested in this if it's close by !
What's up with people on a video game forum judging folks who enjoy going to a theatre 🤣
If people literally go to the Nintendo store in NY to watch Nintendo Directs I'm a bit confused as to why people can't understand how some people might be up for watching the xbox showcase in a cinema for free. If they have some big announcements, it's great PR for Microsoft to have footage of a room going wild - again plenty of examples of this for Nintendo announcements
@Chaudy Not me in any case 🤪🤪
