Microsoft revealed the latest set of titles coming to Xbox Game Pass in May 2023 last week, and one of them that you might have totally glossed over was Chicory: A Colorful Tale, heading to console and PC on May 30th.
If you did, you should know there's a lot to look forward to here! Chicory: A Colorful Tale was actually the 13th best video game of 2021 according to Metacritic's review system, getting an average score of 90/100 - putting it ahead of the likes of Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, It Takes Two, Deathloop and many others.
The gameplay is described as a top-down adventure in a "coloring book world full of vibrant characters". Equipped with unique painting powers, you'll need to solve puzzles as you progress through the campaign. There's also local co-op support if you're interested in playing together with your friends.
Here's what our sister site Nintendo Life had to say in their review a couple of years ago:
"As an adventure game, Chicory is quite sincerely up there with the very best of the genre. There’s plenty to see and do and a full completion run will probably take you 25-30 hours."
"Chicory is simple to play but impressively long and complex, with perfect controls, performance and visuals. Throw yourself into painting the world and you’ll be left with a game that’s very much your own and speaks to you directly – a beautiful marriage of mechanics, themes and visuals."
If you're wondering why you haven't heard about this game on Xbox before, it's because it's never been available on Xbox before! It started out as a PC and PlayStation exclusive in June 2021 before arriving on Switch in December 2021.
We'll throw some more details about Chicory: A Colorful Tale below along with a few screenshots.
"Chicory: A Colorful Tale is a top-down adventure game in a coloring book world where you can draw on anything. Use your painting powers to explore new places, solve puzzles, help your friends, and change the world!
Something terrible happened. Chicory, superstar artist and wielder of the Brush, is missing, and all the color in the land vanished with her. It’s up to you, Chicory’s number one fan, to pick up the Brush and fill in for her. It’s a big job… but you’re ready for it! Probably!"
