Microsoft has officially announced the new Xbox Games With Gold titles for May 2023! These games are available to download for free for Xbox Live Gold members (including subscribers to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate).
Keep in mind that as of this past October, Microsoft will no longer be including Xbox 360 games as part of Games with Gold, so we're getting a limited selection of titles from now on.
Here are May 2023's Xbox Games with Gold games, with more details and footage for each of them:
Xbox Series X|S / Xbox One
Star Wars Episode 1 Racer (May 1-31)
"Take the controls as Anakin Skywalker, or any one of over 21 Podracers, and feel the full-force blast of two massive jet engines at simulated speeds of up to 600 mph. Rein in a turbine-driven chariot through 8 spectacular worlds. Negotiate through flaming methane lakes, Tusken Raider assaults, ant-gravity tunnels and much more in a pulse-punding, do-or-die fight to the finish where anyone will do anything to cross the finish line. How far will you go?"
Hoa (May 16 - June 15)
"Travel through the beautiful, mythologically inspired world of Hoa. Play as the titular fairy returning to her homeland to reinvigorate the terrain and its inhabitants. This is a soothing, meditative puzzle-platformer which will utterly charm you with hand-painted art and a beautiful score. Lose yourself in the little wonders."

@Kaloudz Me too on N64! They did a fine job with the Xbox port, had a great time completing it a couple of years ago.

Hoa is a sweet studio Gibli looking puzzle game. Got it on Switch.
I almost bought Hoa but never quite pulled the trigger. Now I can check it out. Great month for me!

What do people will think happen when Microsoft end games with gold. Do you think games we've claimed will be to own? (doesn't seem right for them to say you'd need to be an ultimate member to continue using...)
I don't normally cut GwG much slack, but both of these are decent titles I might play. We also had a good month a couple of months back.

Played Racer on the N64, it was really good, aside from that absolutely horrendous N64 controller!
1 thing I didn't like or understand about the game:
Why in the blazes did the PodRacers, which DON'T touch the ground, slip and slide on Ice Worlds?
Does the Xbox version of podracer support 4K?
I played through it on Switch and thought it was beautiful. Would love to see what a 4K upgrade looks like

I would be excited for this months games but I already have Star Wars racers, it a good game but you can already get this game pretty cheap.

Bought Hoa on the PS and due to the price point and how short it was, in hindsight, it was a bit expensive tbh. Enjoyed the 2-3 hours playthrough though.
Haven't downloaded a game from GWG in months,finnaly something worth it!(star wars)
