We all know that Xbox Game Studios and Bethesda are hard at work on some ambitious first-party titles such as Fable, The Elder Scrolls 6 and many others, and one of these reportedly could take a literal decade to develop!
This bit of information was dropped in a new amended complaint by the group of gamers who are trying to sue Microsoft over the Activision Blizzard takeover. The complaint states it was a Microsoft executive who mentioned it:
"According to one Microsoft executive, a forthcoming title from the [REDACTED] franchise, may take a decade to develop."
Of course, this reveal has conjured up a lot of speculation about the game actually is, with some suggesting it could be Gears of War or The Elder Scrolls 6. Ultimately though, it's probably something we don't know about yet.
Whatever the game might be, it's crazy to think Xbox could be working on something that none of us will potentially experience until 2033! Let's hope it's not The Elder Scrolls 6, as we don't think we can wait that long...
What do you think the Microsoft exec is referring to here? Give us your suggestions down below.

I imagine if the parent company was better at managing, it would be 5-6 years
I'd say this is the new Fable or next Gears of War.
Also it seems like something happened in May 2022 that halted gamepass growth or lowered it.
It has to be Fallout. Think about it. We know that the timetable for BGS is Starfield in 2023, TESVI next and there's a one pager for Fallout 5
TESVI will be this decade, probably 2028-9 and then Fallout 5 by 2033-4.
10 years doesnβt mean 10 years of full production, it includes creating a AAA game studio and staffing it, which is why they need to make acquisitions if they want to compete now.
From starting a AAA game studio to actually shipping the game it takes around 10 years. We are seeing that with The Initiative studio developing perfect dark, and what is also essentially a new studio to develop the next Fable.
You donβt just get hundreds of highly qualified people knocking on your door on day one to be able to enter full production.
If I had to guess, my guess would be Elder Scrolls
Just release it with degraded graphics in 4 year's and do a "remake" 6 years later with upgraded visuals? The industry needs to figure out something here because 10 years to make a game is crazy! Financially its a massive risk and....it's just crazy!
10 years to develop? And itβs not guaranteed to hit. The game could flop and then all that time and money poured into it would be totally wasted.
Iβm guessing itβs going to be something like Elder Scrolls. Itβs an established series and I'm not sure they would allow a new IP to take that amount of time. I donβt think it will be Fable as Microsoft wanted to show some of that off but the team wanted to wait till itβs further along.
It's obviously Fallout 5! Considering it's not even entered active development yet, Elder Scrolls 6 is to follow Starfield (and it's presumable X2 DLC's) and only then will it be a new Fallout.
Elder scrolls 6 very likely. As far as we know the game is barely in pre-production and Todd takes forever to make a game.
Fallout 5 could so take forever but unless itβs on parallel development with ES6, or handled by someone else, it wonβt even be heard of for maybe 15 or 20 yearsβ¦.
I miss when games were less ambitious and delivered more regularly. In playing Fallout 3 right now, I wish we just got more games of that scale.
@BrilliantBill The Coalition and Iβd say Turn 10 are the only ones who know what theyβre doing. The rest seem to do an hours work a day and spend the rest of the time in the office yoga room.
It could be any game this 10 year one, I wouldnβt like to guess. Wouldnβt even be surprised if it ended up taking 12 years with how most Xbox studios work.
@UltimateOtaku91 Redfall and Starfield were delayed in May 2022

There's the Forbes article from May 2022
They're obviously working on Duke Nukem Forever 2
Don't most Xbox game take a decade to develop?
xbox is really starting to disgust me.
With Avowed already in the works my bet is on the ES6 being the game.
Itβs of course elder scrolls 6. But the fact itβs MS it could literally be any gameβ¦as we wait close to half a decade on average now from when these games announced to actually being released. π€·π»
ES 6 should absolutely NOT take another decade.
Like Halo Infinite did?
They should really split up (or bulk up) the fallout/elder scroll studio. These franchises need a sequel in development almost immediately after the game is finished. There should always be a mainline elder scrolls and fallout title in active developement.
How is this news? Microsoft spending less than a decade on a game would be newsworthy π
@KaijuKaiser At last, we agree on something π π
I don't like the meme-qualities of this information.
Crazy how different game development is now versus the last couple of decades.
And by then the tech and features will be outdated with games doing what that game will already have done
In 10/11/2020 I bought xbox series x and playing every day between 6 and 8 hours , Game pass is the best thing that ever happened in the history of entertainment that's why I don't need any new first party games because I live in heaven. But I have a problem with Microsoft's marketing. They distract me with their constant promises and often... It doesn't happen as I imagined it
I'm so excited to play Starfield +1000 hours and I wish they would slow down and focus on developing Fable because it's my favorite game
It's funny how the headline is all about some game taking a decade like he's some juicy leak and the whole thread is unanimously like ".... Isn't that all of them?"
@Moonglow Yeah the thing with Ms is really just the fact that they have no release cadence at all so they're always in a drought. Most in these circles know the history of why, but the look is bad. I mean Ubisoft has a better release cadence and they just cancelled half their projects. Complicated history but a bad look, plus the delays, and the icing is really Halo taking forever and then still limping out of the gate. It's a meme but it's mixed with a lot of painful truth, too.
Kojima, heck with him 10 years would be a miracle. And a 70b for abk will look like a bargain compared to his first 5 years π
Microsoft, please take the Fallout licence away from Bethesda and give it to Obsidian.
Itβs Starfield!!! Theyβre gonna delay it again!!! π€¨π€¦ββοΈπ
@Fenbops Playground doesnt know what they are doing? InXile doesn't know what they are doing? Doublefine doesnt know what they are doing? Obsidian who put out 2 games last year doesn't know what they are doing? I really dont understand the hatejerk, it's out of control.
@Rmg0731
We are seeing games take longer and longer to create if they are next gen and based on a new game engine. We haven't heard anything from a lot of the biggest studios that are working on new games. Suicide Squad has been in development since 2016 and will ship in 2024. TLOU2 shipped in 2020 and Naughty Dog has not said anything about a new game since. The Coalition shipped Gears 5 in 2020 and no new full game since. Rare shipped Sea of Thieves in 2018 and Everwild hasn't seen the light of day yet. Diablo III released in 2012 and will ship this year. Starfield was trademarked in 2013 but concepts started well before then. etc. etc.
We are seeing new next gen games on new game engines take more and more time to create. In some cases there are management and development problems for sure, but also, it just takes longer to do new things in games. Also, the effort to eliminate crunch time at studios is probably affecting game schedules.
