We've got a brand-new Xbox Game Studios release launching day one as part of the Xbox Game Pass April 2023 lineup, with Minecraft Legends dropping in just two short weeks on Tuesday, April 18th.
Ahead of that date, the final round of hands-on previews have dropped across the web, and the good news is that it seems to be shaping up well! Here's what a few outlets have been saying about the game:
IGN
"Minecraft Legends is the fourth Minecraft spinoff game (Telltale's Minecraft: Story Mode and Mojang's Minecraft Earth and Minecraft Dungeons preceding it) and after getting an hour with its campaign and about an hour with its PvP multiplayer, it's already building to be my favorite of the bunch."
Eurogamer
"In truth the specifics - unit types, building options - did not make as much of an impression on me as the basic fact that Minecraft actually suits the RTS template surprisingly well."
The Verge
"Minecraft Legends is a strategy spinoff of Minecraft — but it might also be the next competitive multiplayer craze. I had a chance to spend a few hours with the game last month at GDC in San Francisco, and while it seems like it has a solid campaign to dig into, I had a lot more fun with the team-based multiplayer."
Press Start Australia
"A telltale sign that a preview has gone well is when you don’t want to put the controller down once your time is up. While I wouldn’t say I was chomping at the bit to see where the PVE mode would take me next, the controller had to be peeled out of my hands when it came to the PVP, and this was much the same for the other players in my game."
As you can see, one of the takeaways for some critics is that the multiplayer aspect of Minecraft Legends is more entertaining and in-depth than the campaign, so it'll be interesting to see if that remains the case in the full version.
We'll have more Minecraft Legends coverage to share in the run up to release, including a list of Xbox Game Pass release times along with a full review. We're excited to get our hands on this one!
