Update (Tue 20th Jun, 2023): The release of Immortals of Aveum has been pushed back slightly until August 22nd, with developer Ascendant Studios explaining that the delay is so the team can polish the title further.
"In order to realize our full vision, we are going to take a few extra weeks, making our new launch date Tuesday, August 22nd. This will give us time to further polish the game, finish optimizing all platforms, and deliver a strong launch. We owe it to ourselves and to you to get this right."
Original story (Thu 13th Apr, 2023): The 'EA Originals' program recently delivered Koei Tecmo's Monster Hunter-like Wild Hearts, and in just a few months' time we'll see another big budget title from the publishing program. Today, the team has revealed a brand-new trailer for 'Immortals of Aveum', EA's new magic-based FPS coming to Xbox this summer.
This title has flown under the radar a little bit, but with this new trailer comes a very close release date. The fantastical first-person action game comes to Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S on July 20th, and here's a little bit more about what the game is going for:
"Immortals of Aveum is a groundbreaking new single-player, first-person magic shooter, created by Ascendant Studios and released by EA Originals. Experience the story of Jak as he joins an elite order of battlemages to save a world on the edge of abyss.
Made by the creators of Call of Duty and Dead Space, Immortals of Aveum is set in an original fantasy universe engulfed in magic, rife with conflict, and on the verge of oblivion."
What do you make of this new trailer? Has this title now flown onto your 2023 radar? Let us know!

Looks like Frostbite engine with how derpish the faces look lol! @1:23...
Gameplay looks like Borderlands 3/Wonderlands but with realistic graphics. Lots of movement with a lot happening on screen
when its on EAplay in a year i will play it
@Kaloudz They have been delivering the goods the past few years. Reminds me of early to mid 2000"s EA
@Kaloudz They earned the auto-hate for a long time, but the new studio head has really been righting the ship these past few years.
@old-dad Early to mid 2000's EA was the terrible corporate conglomeration era. It's the 90's they were awesome.
FWIW, Trip Hawkins, the original founder, still sits on the board. He was there through the bad years, and the awesome years, but there's definitely some of the original (cool) EA present in the leadership from behind the curtain.
@Kaloudz For sure and it was and still is warranted but their SP games last few years have been bangers !
@NEStalgia They had some great games during the 6th and 7th gen consoles. Didn't Trip start the 3do stuff?
This looks really different and interesting. I'm all for new IP and stuff like this from a AAA publisher, I'm so used to them just relying on franchises that are proven commodities. I'm definitely going to keep an eye out for this.
@Kaloudz Aren’t “EA Originals” games that EA helps promote and publishes but that are made by indie developers?
One of the points of this program is exactly to generate some good publicity and that’s why they make sure the brand “EA Originals” is front and center every time they talk about these games. Even the name is misleading since it wasn’t EA that came up with anything original and the IPs aren’t owned by them.
@old-dad Yep, it was a Steve jobs and apple kind of thing where he was exiled at ea, started 3do, then ended up back on the ea board, but not involved in day to day!
@BadAtPickingUsername Is a return to what ea and Activision and most publishers used to be: publishers! The whole industry used to follow the book publishing model of publishing the authors. Virtually all games were what we now call "indie", that was just "game studios". It wasn't until mass consolation lead by ea that the industry switched to the 1930s Hollywood studio model instead of the publishers and the former publishers became the only studios. Then the "indie"term popped up mostly referring to garage developers comparing them to indie rock bands. Then some of the people from the big studio system outfits started breaking out and starting studios like the old studios and then things like ea originals started publishing recreating the old model again but we kept calling them all indies for some reason. 100 plus people from big aaa teams published by ea is somehow "indie"now lol. It used to mean Fez.
@NEStalgia That is what makes Nintendo games feel special. Can actually feel/see the developers vision in the games. Xenoblade, mario, zelda etc. No everybody won't love them but there is no question they come from a good place.
I remember seeing the 3do when I picked up the Sega CD back in the day . It gave me hundreds of hours of games but I still remember seeing Road Rash on 3do and couldn't wait to play it when I got a Saturn. Good times 4 sure lol
@NEStalgia But my point is that they are using these “EA originals” to generate good press around their brand but keep doing all the same stuff that people hate on the games from their own studios. So “EA Originals” is mostly like an indie shield for them to hide behind.
Honestly all I want from EA is for the next BioWare games to be good.
Looks really scrappy to me, but we’ll see!
I like that they are trying something different… but this does not look like my cup of tea. Best of luck to them.
It looks simply amazing. Absolutely something I would love. Really hope that this turns out to be as good as the trailer would have you believe...
