WB Games has announced that Hogwarts Legacy for Xbox One has been delayed again, by around a month or so this time out. The team feels it needs more time to "deliver the best possible experience on all platforms", with the last-gen release now arriving on May 5th, 2023.
Of course, this isn't the first time the Xbox One version of Hogwarts Legacy has been pushed back. The game's previous April release date was already set at about two months after the current-gen release, with the team needing more time to cram its Harry Potter RPG onto last-gen systems.
Hopefully, this short delay benefits the Xbox One edition of the game either way. Not too long ago the team at Digital Foundry found issues with all current-gen versions in its deep dive analysis, so any extra work on these last-gen releases will hopefully benefit the final product.
Despite a few rough edges, we loved our time with the Xbox Series X version of Hogwarts Legacy. Check out our full written Pure Xbox review down below!

Hogwarts Legacy does not exist in a vacuum. There are important discussions being had about the views and opinions held by the creator of the Harry Potter universe – views and opinions which we do not agree with.
Our goal is to create and foster a positive environment for people – all people – to discuss and celebrate video games, not to amplify ignorance or provide a forum for unconstructive arguments. As per our community rules, we do not accept any form of hate speech on our platform.
Honestly, I'd be surprised if the game manages to run on last gen consoles acceptably, especially when it comes to the Switch. I got the game on PS5 and it seems to push that pretty hard, I needed to settle for the balanced setting just to get it to run smoothly. I think going for last gen platforms was a bit too ambitious, and I doubt they're going to get a lot of sales on them either, but then again the Switch does manage to sell surprisingly well these days.
By the way you need to give the whole controversy thing a rest, I'm sure there's no shortage of people who disagree with all sorts of views, that's just life. I think we get way too caught up on views in general, it's almost like an intolerance for contrary opinions these days. You can't expect people to always agree or side with you, and we shouldn't be so wrapped up in everyone's personal opinions.
I think this is great for pushing next-gen. I know that sucks for anyone still on last gen and unable to upgrade right now, and is counter to the "gaming should be inclusive" message I usually push. But the reality is the transition to this new gen is by far the slowest on record and needs a jump start, else this gen will last 8-10+ years. Needs must.
@BrilliantBill That's true, there are absolutely reasonable factors for why last gen has dragged on.
Though it's less graphics I am worried about. I generally think we are beyond the point of diminishing returns on graphics where we are MORE limited by a game's budget and skill of the development / art team than we are by the actual hardware. I just don't think we will have that many games that blow us away graphically compared to previous gens. But I think that's actually a good thing.
What i'm more worried about is game design itself, ditching those ancient Jaguar CPU's and designing around a fast SSD as a base level. It's these areas that have been most held back for so long and are such a huge step forward this gen, whereas graphically it's a much smaller bump, much of which is already used jumping from 30-60fps.
@ActionPanther Depends on the game's scope I think, plenty of smaller games could still run on last gen. But for high end and AAA yes I very much hope these are the last breaths for cross gen.
I think all games that are aiming to push tech should have the end of 2023 as a target date to drop last gen consoles. I'm pretty confident others will keep launching Xbox One and PS4 games esp well into 2025.
@ActionPanther I'm not so sure, unfortunately. Over on Reddit I made a comment similar to yours on a game coming in 2024 to Xbox one.
Interestingly, the consensus seemed to be I should sit down and shut up, as xbox is now a series, hence the name.
That said, I'll look forward to playing the latest titles on my venerable series x in 2033, but personally I feel it's time to cut the strings.
@Sebatrox I'd it hasn't been canceled at this point, they probably won't have any issues on Switch.
Historically Xbox has been the trailing console for development after enjoying the 360 being used as the basis for development.
Most likely they have an excellent Switch workflow, given how much larger of a user base it has.
Pure Xbox you did another story on high on life the other day & didn't bother to put a disclaimer about the disgusting person heavily involved in that game why then do you always post one on articles about Hogwarts legacy 🤷♂️
@Would_you_kindly because nobody cares lol
I’m surprised they’re even bothering to bring this out on Xbox One to be honest.
@Would_you_kindly Because everyone knows what said person did is very wrong, and everyone agrees on that. Not everyone can agree on the Harry Potter issue.
@Floki What did she do that was so wrong? Also should Pure Xbox not want any such debates on articles then please stop posting that nonsense at the top of the comments section. Fully support Pure Xbox but don’t agree with their statement.
@Techno92LFC I not gonna bring up what she did. If you want to know more. The statement above has a link. They are forced to post the statement to remind people that at the end of the day this is a gaming site, so of course they are gonna talk about the biggest game of the year, but just cause they talk about said game… Doesn’t mean they agree with the creator cause some people can’t separate art from creator and automatically assume that if you talk or mention said game. Your opinion align with her.
So it either the post that statement or we just don’t get any article about the game.
