As part of his interview with YouTube channel Xbox On earlier today, Xbox boss Phil Spencer was asked about the team's upcoming plans, revealing that most of the focus right now is on the annual Xbox summer showcase taking place this June.
However, he also mentioned that there will be some news coming out between now and then, hinting at "GoldenEye type announcements" that could be in the pipeline. Here's an extract from the interview:
"So, a lot of our focus right now is on the showcase in June, but there's some news that's coming out. I mean, things that... you know, we did GoldenEye... I'm thinking like, you know, GoldenEye type announcements. So, there'll be things available, games available in different services. Obviously, the Game Pass portfolio continues to grow, but most of our focus as a team is really on getting ready for the showcase."
The only announcement that comes to mind for us is Ghostwire: Tokyo, which seems nailed on for an Xbox Game Pass release in March 2023. Nothing has been announced yet, but we're expecting to hear more at the end of the month.
Aside from that, it's anyone's guess - but we wouldn't suggest getting your hopes up too much. It sounds like most of the focus is now on the Xbox summer showcase, and hopefully the Starfield showcase before that as well!
What do you make of Spencer's comments? Tell us down below.

“We said we were going to do a separate showcase for Starfield but decided it would be better just to see what you think about it. So go play Starfield…right now on GamePass”.
They got goldeneye eventually, so I'm going to continue asking for JSRF
Blake Stone let’s go
Imagine if it was FF7 Remake 😀
"games available in different services" makes me think more Rare games being added to NSO.
Seeing as Nintendo won’t deliver. F-Zero, please!
I can't think of much from their back catalogue that would be like golden eye. Maybe something from Bethesda or obsidian? Something involving difficult third party agreement? Todd Howard Presents: How to Train Your Customer?
Unless its Conker without any censorship, its not wanted.
Maybe they figured out the ridiculous rights for the No One Lives Forever franchise?!?
@Scummbuddy Be still, my heart.
So they are anticipating the Acti-Blizz buyout to go thru by June. Then dump a bunch of older Games onto Xbox. That, WOULD, be cool.
Do they own the right to midtown madness or no
jet force gemini, please and thank you.
Maybe the early to mid 2000s era 007 games?
@Don everything or nothing badly needs a remaster. So does Nightfire
Hopefully that means the June show will be no fluff, all bangers. I don't want any fallout 76 content, etc. just big announcements.
I wouldn't read too much into the goldeneye comment. I doubt it means old school re-release. I think it just means small announcements. Could be 3rd party gamepass deals, dlc, etc.
@Somebody Yeah I agree, I think it just means smaller announcements rather than anything specific.
I'd like to think Ghostwire will be on GP this month.
It just doesn't make sense that it would be on PSN extra this month and not on GP, so I hope those that have wited patiently get this soon. I really enjoyed it last year, and I know a lot of Xbox players will enjoy it too, so come on, roll it out!
It does sound like Phil's discussing smaller announcements to keep momentum till the big summer show, but I'd like to think they may surprise with something a little bigger. Hope springs eternal!
@Titntin the same happened to Deathloop last year, I think. The game went to PS Extra before it went to Game Pass. We have gotten a peek at some of Sony marketing contracts in the past (think via the capcom leak) and they seem to have clauses about no competing subscription services for a year, and after the year, Sony gets to get first call on adding the title to their subscription services. A month or at least a few weeks head-start might end up being mandatory.
If "like Goldeneye" they mean something that had been thoroughly leaked ages ago, and was a bit of a disappointment when it came out; then I'm fine with fewer of those thanks.
The "games available in different services" could mean we see more games going to Playstation Plus like we've just seen announced with Minecraft Dungeons.
Maybe more Rare classics will also make their way to Nintendo Switch Online? I hope to see games like Diddy Kong Racing make a return. Love that game to bits (perhaps controversially more than Mario Kart 64).
@Tharsman Yeah I think your right. That's a bit mean, as PS users have had access to it anyway. I hope its not long before everyone on xbox gets to play it. I know many will think its 'meh', but I also know there will plenty who love its quirkiness
If it's ported as badly as Goldeneye why even bother? The bar is set so low now I guess try whatever right?
@Grumblevolcano That was my thought as well.
Still waiting for quake 2.
They did a great job on the first one.
See that people are not that happy with goldeneye, why's that?
Played it for the first time on gamepass & I really enjoyed the game so far.
Final Fantasy 1-6?
Persona 1-2?
......
Super Mario Bro 1-3?
