Is 2023 fast becoming the year of the gaming shut down? While Microsoft has officially walked back its support page comments on the Xbox 360 store closure, two other Xbox experiences are indeed closing down in the next few months.
The teams behind two free-to-play Xbox games, Rumbleverse and Knockout City, have revealed that both games will shut down this year. F2P battle royale Rumbleverse is the first to go on February 28th, 2023.
Developer Iron Galaxy has confirmed that players can get refunds on any in-game purchases made since the game launched last August, including battle pass content. The team will be revealing more information on refunds "soon".
Over in Knockout City, it's been revealed that the free-to-play brawler is all set to shut down on June 6th, 2023. Knockout City has been around a little longer, with the team also giving fans a bit more notice on the game's shutdown.
Season 9 for Knockout City will still go ahead later this month, but as it does, all in-game purchases will be disabled and players will no longer be able to spend money on the game. Both Season 9 and the in-game store closure are set to occur on February 28th, 2023.
If you want to get a little more playtime in with either of these free-to-play Xbox games, you've only got a few more weeks to do so. For fans of either title this is unfortunate to see, but alas, 'tis the world we live in!
Did you play either of these free-to-play games? Leave your thoughts on the two closures down below.

It is the battle Royale of battle Royale free to play games... Let's see If publishers will keep trying to land a hit or if the market is already saturated of entries as these games require a lot o attention therefore people keep to one or two at the most
That sucks, especially for Knockout City which didn't debut as a F2P game. People paid for it and noe they won't have access to it.
@OrfeasDourvas it’s a shame, for sure. I purchased it on one platform and then got it on all three consoles when it went F2P. I quite liked it. Granted, I haven’t played a match in a little while (though certainly more recently than I’ve played a match of Halo Infinite), but it was definitely one of the better games to release in 2021 of the multiplayer variety.
Haven't played Knockout City in a while but it's a lot of fun. I do hope a developer makes a spiritual successor to it.
While I mainly play single player games I do really enjoy playing Fall Guys. I really hope it doesn’t suffer the same fate as these titles.
For those that played these titles, it must be really sad news. Hopefully fan servers go up and keep the games functional. I’d love to try them one day but I don’t want to like them and then have the games disappear a month or two later.
I'm not a multiplayer guy, but I've been trying a few lately, and these two were the ones I liked the most. Just my luck, man.
Rumbleverse I couldn't care less about but knockout city that's my girl right there... Will definitely miss that game
@EliJapan Anytime someone buys an online game or in game transactions they should know it can go away in an instant. KO City at least had a 2 year run. People aren't due refunds everytime CoD moves on to a new game or servers shutdown on a decade old game someone paid for.
@Serpentes420 the difference is that I can still play the single player campaign in old CoD games. But Knockiut City will now be just a disc with nothing on it.
I guess it will be the same when they shut down Overwatch, Destiny and so forth, but those games had a much longer lifespan and are still playable today so it doesn’t feel like a rip off.
@EliJapan I agree. I think there are going to be a lot of disappointed kids out there over this.
