It's been a good few days for Xbox Game Pass, with the highlight arguably being the arrival of Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition on Xbox One, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S for the very first time!
The reviews have been really good for this new console version of the strategy classic, and Xbox boss Phil Spencer has thrown his support behind it as well, praising the "such good job" that the team did with the Xbox control scheme.
As Phil mentions, Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition also has online co-op support, and you can even take advantage of cross-play with anyone playing on PC (Microsoft Store or Steam) if you want to.
Don't forget that if you don't like the idea of the Xbox control scheme, there's also mouse and keyboard support on Xbox One, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, so there are plenty of different ways to play!

The controls really are fantastic. I was debating using a keyboard/mouse set-up but the way it suits a controller if you're playing on console, there really is no need for anything but a controller.
its been done before on ps2 era anyway.
little disappointing that even 1v1 the S cant handle 500 units.
is it the same on X?
Yea waa plesantly suprised with the control scheme, usually takes a while to get to what u want, this is pretty straight forward. Loving it so far. Havent had a decent session yet only couple hrs due to being busy but will give it a good session soon.
Been fantastic.
Girlfriend life it whe.she was younger. We only have one PC, but two Series Xs. So we've been playing together each night and man. Did it work out well.

I have to admit, the controls are very well thought out and feel pretty good, though a PC with k/b mouse is always gonna be the best way.
I used to play and enjoy this back in the day, and this appears to be a faithful update. But it just bores me now, though im not sure why. Maybe I just havent got the appitite for these time sinks that I used to.. I have new time sinks. 😀
Really curious but not launching it until I’m done with Skyrim, and who knows when that will happen…
I like the gamepad controls even better than the keyboard mouse. Sitting on the couch, playing aoe2. Man, cant they implement these controls on al those games of my youth, like red alert 2 and dungeon keeper for example. Great, great job!!!

Here to chime in on the controls, they are possibly the best RTS controls I've ever had to learn for this genre of game. I feel like these controls are pick-up and play, but at the same time someone who masters them will be an absolute beast in PVP.
I am so shocked how well the Controls are!! It's such an amazing game!
