It's no secret that Hogwarts Legacy has been a huge sales hit so far, with the game getting off to a flying start at retail here in the UK. It's looking like that very commercial success at launch has prompted HBO to start work on a TV series based on the game, according to a new report.
Outlet Giant Freakin Robot is reporting that the US-based television network is "in the early phases of development" on a Hogwarts Legacy TV show. What exact form it'll take remains unclear, but the outlet "presumes" it will follow the game's time period and be set prior to the film series.
This information is worth taking with a good chef's pinch of salt right now - details are thin on the ground and nothing has been confirmed by HBO or Warner Bros. just yet.
Still, the game has clearly been a huge success so far, and given that no game DLC is planned right now, the teams involved may well be exploring other avenues for more Hogwarts Legacy content. HBO's 'The Last of Us' has shown how popular such adaptations can be!

Hogwarts Legacy does not exist in a vacuum. There are important discussions being had about the views and opinions held by the creator of the Harry Potter universe – views and opinions which we do not agree with.
Our goal is to create and foster a positive environment for people – all people – to discuss and celebrate video games, not to amplify ignorance or provide a forum for unconstructive arguments. As per our community rules, we do not accept any form of hate speech on our platform.
In HBO we trust

Hopefully the show turns out better than the Fantastic Beasts movies
Everybody is going to have a good TV series of a game except Microsoft. RIP Halo.
Fallout is looking pretty, but I'm not holding my breath.
Is the franchise so bereft of ideas they'll make a show based on the game than their own story in the universe?
Given all the problems Warner Bros have had lately I'm not surprised they're scrambling to try and wring money out of their franchises, but I think this is one that's run its course now.
A fear they will inject "reinterpreted content for a modern audience"
@PhileasFragg It’s a bit jarring for sure to see the chaos that is WB. I think Space Jam 2 illustrated how tone deaf they tend to be with their IP. They seriously just view consumers as idiots and IP as money fodder to throw at a wall and hope something sticks. All of that while ignoring the consequences and ramifications of what they do.
@KonstantTrouble What does that even mean? Oh let me guess, if a black/Asian/gay/trans character breathes, people will lose their sh*t, right? God forbid we see diverse characters in an ORIGINAL story.

@UndyingInsurgent95 It's up for interpretation. Being black myself I love racial representation. But for new characters not race swapping established characters.

@BrilliantBill It really isn't. The only "tough"ness behind it are producers not knowing their audience.
All they had to do was adapt the books. Start with Nylund's Fall of Reach and go from there.
Instead they made something that was so far off base they lost their audience and couldn't make up for it with another.
There's plenty of good scifi that's been translated, Jurassic Park and 2001 comes to mind.
The issue with Dune is it doesn't really have a movie going audience pull. The recent Dune, despite being a great adaptation, did not pull the numbers in theaters that it should have, if you go strictly on the popularity of the books.
The issue with Halo TV was the opposite. It was simply bad with no redeeming qualities. It ignored everything about Halo. And could honestly be passed off as bad fanfiction. By doing what the did, they alienated the audience they could have had, fans of the games and books.

@UndyingInsurgent95 EDIT: not the time and place to argue
As my previous comment was (unjustly) deemed inappropriate, I’ll simply rephrase:
Live and let live people. This isn’t the place to preach, just to enjoy videogames.
Would be interesting to see this on TV
Damn, we've gotten a little PushSquare-y here too?
Come on, guys, let's all try to be civilized. I'm of the mind you can say whatever you want as long as you choose your words carefully.

Tv show based on a video game, based on a movie, based on a book.
Hbo chasing quick money. Shocker. The difference is Potterverse is NOT American it is English UK, and any kind of HBO or Paramount adaption will be americanised. Which is NOT Hogwarts.
@BrilliantBill That's falls down to 343 not knowing their audience.
They took a platonic relationship between a super soldier and AI and made it romantic.
They've killed off multiple loved characters for no other reason than to do it, as they did with ODST's Rookie.
On top of this, they killed the big bag of Halo 4 in book as well.
They took John, which was something created out of desperation, and turned him into "The hero foretold by destiny" by using a geass to program humanity to make him in the future.
Gave use the most hated character in Halo history, Del Rio and Sarah Palmer.
Now compare this to pre 343 days when, for the most part, Halo was hard scifi. More so in the books due to proper display of plasma damage.
Hell, Halo Infinite was their admission that they screwed up Halo with them taking it back to the roots. But even that, they squandered releasing.
@InterceptorAlpha What good TV series does Nintendo have?
@Ralizah Pokémon. Also the Super Mario moving coming up soon looks like a banger.
@InterceptorAlpha anything is better than the last super Mario bros Movie. Shudder
Pure Xbox, What does the opinions that the Harry Potter creator has have to do with this article?
Interesting if true, I’d watch.
@Brue They just announced new Lord of the Rings movies too. The only thing that WB has is their rights to franchises that haven't had certifiable hits in years. That and unsurmountable debts.
@Techno92LFC Because it's an article about Harry Potter maybe?
@PhileasFragg That doesn’t mean to say that every single article about Harry Potter on any website from now on has to be about her opinions.
