If you're a Psychonauts 2 fan, then we hope you haven't got too many plans this weekend, as Double Fine has unleashed an absolutely massive documentary onto YouTube about the making of the beloved hit sequel.
This documentary has been seven years in the making, and follows the Double Fine team from the initial concept stage of Psychonauts 2 all the way to its release in 2021. We're looking at many, many hours of footage here!
"Ten years after the release of their flagship video game Psychonauts, Double Fine Productions returns to its most celebrated franchise with Psychonauts 2. Now facing the pressure to produce a worthy sequel, the studio must confront overly ambitious designs, poor morale, technical challenges and financial woes, all during a turbulent span of time for the world."
You can check out the trailer for the documentary above, but you'll need to access the proper YouTube playlist if you want to watch all 32 parts in order (although be warned, some of them are over an hour long!). If you're interested in watching the first episode right away, we've embedded it in the article below.
Of course, Psychonauts 2 ended up becoming a massive success for both Double Fine and Xbox when it was released a couple of years ago, and we're very interested to see how it all came together. The game was even awarded a very rare "Outstanding" 10/10 review here at Pure Xbox, so if you haven't tried it yet, we highly recommend it!

This looks absolutely ace! I loved the Amnesia Fortnight videos. Seeing how open Double Fine are with their work is always great to see.
This looks interesting. From previous interviews I heard xbox really put some money into it after the acquisition. It would be interesting to hear more about that. Tim Schafer sounded excited to not have to worry about finding money anymore. I can't wait to see where his creative mind can go without that restraint.
This looks amazing. But even for a dedicated fan 32 episodes, some over an hour long, seems excessive no?
I watched the first episode and its just as revealing as the Halo 2 making of (which everyone should go watch). Refreshing to see a warts and all behind the scenes.
Wow I cant believe they put out all 30+ episodes at the same time already. And these 30 episodes, aren't like 5 to 15 minutes, but I think every episode is over 30 minutes
This is the best video game TV series adaptation.
That’s an interesting take on creating a documentary on the creation of a game. As a gamer, I always wonder how much work goes into creating the game, but this give is a more human level. We not only see the people working on the game, you get their emotions and feel their pressure to deliver. 32 episodes is a lot. I don’t know if I’ll watch every single one of them, but I am curious to see more after watching the trailer.
