Deep Silver has announced that the long-in-development Dead Island 2 is now launching a bit earlier than anticipated! Sure, the move is probably not going to make up for the years and years worth of delays, but Dead Island 2 now hits Xbox on April 21st, 2023.
The game's previous release date was locked in for April 28th, just a week later than its new date. However, the game has already gone gold says publisher Deep Silver, which helps facilitate the new launch date.
The team doesn't go into any more detail on any other reasons behind the shift, but we can think of a potential one - Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. EA and Respawn Entertainment recently delayed the upcoming Star Wars adventure by a few weeks to help polish the game up before a new April 28th launch.
Is this just a mere coincidence? Who's to know. Either way, you can all look forward to splattering zombies all over the place a little earlier when Dead Island 2 launches for Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S on April 21st.
Is this a day one buy for you? Let us know if you'll be exploring Dead Island 2 this April!

This is definitely a strategic move, they don't want to go toe to toe with Jedi Survivor, who would?
Yeah totally see why this has happened. But, whilst I will absolutely pick up dead island at some point. The move forward a week makes no difference to me. Can't justify paying for two new releases a week apart - Jedi Survivor will still win out for me and I'll pick this up at a later date (hopefully with a price drop).
I'm more excited for dead island 2 than jedi.
This year is an absolute madness with all these game releases, Dead Space, Hi-Fi Rush, Metroid Prime, Hogwarts Legacy, Atomic Heart, Like a Dragon Ishin, Resident Evil 4, Horizon Burning Shores, Dead Island 2, Jedi Survivor, Redfall, Zelda Tears of the Kingdom, Suicide Squad, FFXVI, and (hopefully) Starfield.
All for the first half of the year and mandatory to play (at least for me), I have no idea how I will get the time to play and complete all of these.
I was wondering why they had done it, this makes a LOT more sense.
excuse me. but both of these games release on the same day 4/28/23 just how does this not clash with each other.
i buy physical copy and both are releasing on the 28th of April.
I really hope this turns out well. Just today I deleted Dying Light 2 after about 15 hours. The first Dying Light is a top 3 all time zombie game for me. The sequel is larger but entirely forgettable otherwise.
