Microsoft has officially announced the new Xbox Games With Gold titles for February 2023! These games are available to download for free for Xbox Live Gold members (including subscribers to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate).
Keep in mind that as of this past October, Microsoft will no longer be including Xbox 360 games as part of Games with Gold, so we're getting a limited selection of titles from now on.
Here are February 2023's Xbox Games with Gold games, with more details and footage for each of them:
Xbox Series X|S / Xbox One
For The King (February 1-28)
"The King has been murdered and the kingdom is in chaos. It’s up to you and your makeshift band to help save the land. Play single-player, local, or online coop and choose to stick together or split your party to cover more ground. Battle in fast and brutal turn-based combat using your unique skills. Survive cunning enemies, hidden traps, and wicked weather as you fight and explore to solve the mystery of the king’s murder and restore order to the realm."
Guts N Goals (February 16 - March 15)
"Play the world’s greatest game turned on its head and on a skating rink or the beach! Gut N Goals is an arcade-style soccer game where you get to beat up your friends as you try to score. Get your bat and get smack-tastic in multiple crazy stadiums each with their own unique mechanics.
Try out lots of fun mini-games. Watch out for penalties…oh wait, there are no penalty cards! Go nuts! Choose from over 30 heroes with character skills and keep on your toes because random mutators can change the way you play at any time."

For the King is a great game, though a bit difficult at times, and it supports up to 3-player local co-op.
Been waiting to hear what games are coming all day (considering the date today) and well....I guess it's another month of disappointment
Oh and guts n goal has 1 unobtainable achievement if anybody was interested
I'm so happy we got GamePass. Seriously, I'm convinced that this is Xbox plan for GWG for the foreseeable future. These titles are laughable.
For the King is a great game. Loved it on GamePass and happy to have it now with GWG. No idea about the other one. But I’m good with at least one win.
For the King is EXCELLENT! I already have it, but amazing game. Give it a shot, people!
Stop Mocrosoft just stop. You are embarrassing yourself and insulting us.
Wasn't For the King free not that long ago??
Looks good to me. Glad I don't have to double dip for "For the King" and the other game looks fun.
based on the comments here i'll give for the king a shot
No, no, no... 🤣🤣 (Seriously)
I was going to buy for the king so this works great for me. 👍🏻
Never heard of but for Indies. One is a party game and one is a turn based game sure why not. I swear Sony/Nintendo fans a a bit more grateful but at the same time probably still for bigger Indies then smaller Indies. Xbox fans I know play Indies and other genres (besides the typical shooter, racing, sports stereotype) by third parties but most of the time it lives up to that I feel or people always want big games. Well whatever they get the license for or maybe they are gems but most people write gems off.
It's why I am not surprised Project Spark failed (Halo Forge is great of course or Minecraft), and why Dreams and Game Builder Garage/Mario Maker thrive on the other platforms.
@Lucylu1983 @Rafie @Tasuki So exactly what are you and the many other disappointed ones expecting? They are free games and I'm guessing they are choosing these games to give exposure to the developers. Most of the games with gold, for a long time now have not been something I am interested in, but I have never been disappointed in what they gave me or thought the games sucked.
Notify the editors of the Oxford English Dictionary, the word 'Batch' has been redefined to mean 'two'.
@ZYDIO
Well there is one other service thats exactly this services equivalent, psn. They give away much more modern or more desirable games each month with the same service and equivalent price. Maybe people would prefer something here thats more comparable?
As an example, this months games:
OlliOlli World (PS5, PS4)
Mafia: Definitive Edition (PS4)
Evil Dead: The Game (PS5, PS4)
Destiny 2: Beyond Light (PS5, PS4)
Now I appreciate that for many gwg is just something thats included with game pass, as the comparison between gamepass and psn extra or premium swings much more towards xbox. But for those people just signed up with GwG to play online, they could benefit from games as decent as their rivals, and its not unreasonable fir them to note that their service gives them less games of far less worth every month.
Theres a market of two services here, and when one of them is constantly giving cr@p whilst the other offers decent titles, I think people have every right to be dissapointed at what their money is getting them.
Xbox is a fantastic place to play games and get brilliant value, but Games with Gold is well past its sell by date and should have stopped a long time back.
@Titntin Remember, Xbox used to have good AAA games with gold until it became unsustainable. That's what PSN is doing now, and they will level out the games the same way soon. Also I think the PSN naming is funny. PSN...Premium...Extra. Haha. What's next PSN Premium Extra Mega Ultra Mondo Super Duper head explode.
I don't understand why they stopped Xbox 360 and such games from appearing in Games With Gold. It's really a shame as that era had great games as well.
@ZYDIO Thats not the case, they have always been poor. Name a single AAA title given with GWG.
They used to iinclude 360 titles which was great if you wanted to build that collection, but GWG has always been cheap bargain bucket titles, some worth having of course, but nothing of any value.
PSN titles have always been much better and often new titles (like stray). If anything, they have gotten better since the relaunch of extra and premium and have been this way for for a long time with no signs of change.
Yes having three options seems to make peoples heads explode like its the most complex thing in the world, and Sony hardly helped themselves with an easy to forget naming system. You can see why they didnt want to use bronze silver and gold though!
The fact remains that their basic service is miles better than microsofts, and when service value is one of xboxes main assetts, im frankly shocked that MS continue to let this be the case. A non core gamer wishing to play fortnight and just buy a couple of games a year is miles better off on Sonys machine than on an Xbox, which may explain why it continues to trail behind in sales.
Its only people who are prepared to sub to a full service that see what GP brings to the table, and even that is a closer comparison than it used to be.
Im rooting for the box here, its clear MS need to rethink the GWG offering. I think the best thing they could do would be to drop it and offer free online play. Suddenly, xbox would be the place to be the non core fortnight player and im sure they would capture more sales.
The games are free and part of Xbox live gold. We pay for Xbox live gold to pay for the superior online experience. I remember paying for Xbox live with no free games and I was more than happy to give them my money to play online. I have been an Xbox live member since day one. It used to be a flat $9.99 a month for years before they introduced the reduced pricing plans for paying for more than 1 month at a time. Then came the free games and I could not have been happier. They were actually free. So, not only did I get to pay $5 a month instead of $9.99 for Xbox live, I get free games on top of that. I had and still have no complaints. Oh, and then they added Xbox one games and added them to the free Xbox 360 games we were getting instead of replacing them. So now we get 4 free games a month and online play for $5 a month! At this point they could just give me 4 trial games and I would be happy, but no, we get to keep them, wow! So, Good AAA games or not, they are games being decent to awesome and they are free. Why is everyone so ungrateful? Just be happy and appreciate what you have and what is given to you. Like I said before, Some of those games aren't to my liking and some are, they are trying to appeal to everyone. Some of the games I'm not crazy about, my friends can't get enough of, so my friends get to enjoy them and that's awesome. Anyways, enough of that rambling. Here are the games with gold that you wanted to know about:

Ok I'm tired of making this list, but there you go, you should get the point.
I don't know what you consider AAA, but that looks like AAA games to me and plenty of them. I have no idea where you get, "no AAA title given with GWG" but you are seriously mistaken. Oh and that was just the Xbox 360 games I was listing. Here's the full list if you want to see it.

Oh yea, I almost forgot. I think they should totally get rid of Xbox live gold and games with gold. The reason that we were supposed to be paying for Xbox live gold was to pay for the servers and to keep the infrastructure maintained. That's not how it works anymore these days and everyone knows it. They do not need our subscription money to maintain the servers, but when the service started it was necessary. So yeah, I think online play should be free and the only reason I think they started offering the games with gold was so they could keep charging us a monthly fee, because we knew that it shouldn't cost anything anymore. I paid for Xbox live for 11 years before I started getting free games. I think 11 years of subscription money from everyone to get the server and maintenance situation under control is more than enough time and that was 11 years ago.
@ZYDIO Well that certainly showed me, though the links would have been enough! Quite clearly the service has previously given many a brilliant AAA game, thanks for correcting me, that list must have taken a bit to type😁
It feels like Ive been dissapointed with the offerings for a long time, its easy to forget the quality titles they used to give. Everyone will have their own idea of the value proposition these titles represent. But this service does not exist in a vacuum, and comparisons with its rival service and other free games from amazon or epic etc are inevitable and not unreasonable for people to make I feel.
I really feel killing it and making online free would be master move right now, but I dont expect to see it happan.
Thanks again for correcting my mistake.
Yeah, I was typing them out and then I realized I could copy and paste and then I realized why the hell am I doing this so, then I just put the links, ha. The point I was trying to make is that I think what PSN is doing now is what Xbox games with gold was doing a long time ago. I wonder if PSN will run out of ammo as well and then just start doing the same thing. They can't give away AAA games forever, then there would be no reason for anyone to buy any and the whole reason they're in business is to make money. I get it though, I used to look forward to finding out what the new games with gold were. Now, it's like I already know it's not going to be a game that I will play. It used to be sometimes that I already owned the game and I would be slightly disappointed but oh well. Now I just figure well, they already gave away all of the games I like and I still have them so now they are targeting a different audience. I do really think they should just end the program or move games with gold over to Game pass and let Xbox live just be free.
