So, the rumoured event for January has been announced! Xbox and Bethesda will be hosting a livestream on January 25th where the development studios themselves will walk us through deep dives into the likes of Forza Motorsport and Redfall, and apparently that's just the beginning of a "big year" for the Xbox team.
Following the reveal, VP of Xbox Games Marketing Aaron Greenberg took to Twitter to reveal a bit more about the livestream, calling the idea "a new approach" with no hosts unlike a typical Xbox event:
"It’s going to be a big year for us, it starts on January 25th as we take you inside our studios to see some of the games coming to Xbox/PC/Game Pass over next few months."
"A new approach with no hosts, to share the magic of being inside our studios seeing extended gameplay & hearing directly from the dev teams working hard on some of the games coming for you."
The announcement mentioned that we'll hear about "games coming to Xbox, PC and Game Pass over the next few months", and in regards to the latter, the Game Pass Twitter account has advised fans to not miss the event:
Ultimately, we're hoping that alongside the extended gameplay showcases for these upcoming first-party titles, we might actually get some release dates as well. Hopefully we'll finally hear more about GoldenEye 007 too, which was announced as "coming soon" to Xbox Game Pass a while ago, but we've heard nothing since.
It's been a quiet start to the year for Xbox, but it looks like that's about to change very soon!

I will be watching for sure but this nonsense of “ the beginning of a "big year" for the Xbox team” I just take with a pinch of salt. Been burned too many times with promises from Xbox.
Hi there fellow gamers;
Great news and hopefully this new form of event will make the showcase much more appealing to most people.
It is always interesting to see the Devs talk and show about their projects, as well as watching not just extended gameplay but also with their commentary on what we´re seeing and how the game actually works.
This is the moment Microsoft needs to show what they have in store and hopefully it is good. Show me the GAMES!!!
Cheers, stay safe good people and happy gaming to us all
Good stuff, excited for the year!
@Kloppo I mean they just listed 3 games that are absolutely coming in the upcoming months (Starfield too but I bet it’s getting delayed to the second half of the year), I know it’s hard to trust the brand as they’ve been promising a lot and underdeliver time and time again, but at least the games seem very close to release so I’m actually hopeful this is THE year Xbox gets its s**t together.
Blah blah blah heard it all before for the past 2+ years now * Yawn ZZZZzzzzz
It would be weird if they said anything other than this.
Imagine Xbox saying: "It's going to be a mediocre year for Xbox. Watch our Developer Direct showcase, or don't, we don't care."
@IOI I think it's best to be skeptical of the comment at the moment and if the Direct delivers then you know it's not overhyping.
Exceptions obviously in check has we heard all this before. But feeling hopeful that Xbox deliver for 2023. It’s about release dates and the games quality for me.
Don't expect much other than the 4 games listed by xbox (Redfall, forza, minecraft legends, elder scrolls online). There might be a couple surprises but I don't think it's wise to expect any big reveals. Those are probably waiting for e3.
My expectations are about 10 minutes for each game. A mixture of game footage and developers talking with a release date for each. If anything else is shown it will be a bonus.
I really hope there’s more to this than Forza, Redfall, ESO, and Minecraft Legends. I’m really curious if Redfall will start to look actually exciting with this one, or if it’ll be a “meh, it’s on Gamepass, I’ll see if it’s good.” If it’s just the four games though, I’ll feel silly for watching it, hoping for surprises, but eh, I go on vacation the 27th and will already have two games I’m playing by that time, so I’ve already got plenty else to look forward to if I’m nonplussed at the end of this… but I want to be plussed! Lol.
With ES, wake me up when it’s ES6 info instead of ESO.
Format always should have been just gameplay and devs, minimum cinematics, no hosts and fillers!
Honestly, if they mess this up, I'm selling the console and cutting my losses.
