Elden Ring has already received a lot of praise and now at this year's Game Awards show, it's officially been crowned the Game of the Year. The other titles nominated in this category included A Plague Tale: Requiem, God of War Ragnarok, Horizon Forbidden West, Stray and Xenoblade Chronicles 3.
Apart from winning the biggest award of the night, Elden Ring also won best game direction, best art direction, and best role-playing game. The Xbox Game Studios title As Dusk Falls also took out the "games for impact" award.
In our own Pure Xbox review, we awarded the game an outstanding 10 out of 10 stars - calling it one of the very best video games ever made. Earlier this week the same title also got a free 'Colosseum' update.
In somewhat related news, FromSoftware also unveiled it had officially begun development on Armored Core VI Fires Of Rubicon. You can learn more in our previous post.

Fully deserved, Elden Ring is a generation defining game and will be talked about for years to come.
Cross the fog, to the Lands Between, to stand before the Elden Ring.
Well deserved!
Glad to see it - it was the one title that's completely genre re-defining and totally deserved the accolades.
My goty is Ragnarok but can't deny the love & praise elden ring has received from the gaming community
@Would_you_kindly
I hear you mate and Rangorok was indeed a mighty competitor, I'm loving every second I play.
Ultimately, much as I love GOW, its more of what we have played already in 2018.
I've never played anything like Elden ring before.
I suspect that's why it won.
Well deserved indeed. It’s absolutely one of the best games I’ve ever played. Maybe even THE best.
@Kaloudz That's interesting, I also felt like I'd 'cheated' a little bit by the end as I always used spirit summons for the boss fights (but never called for help from actual people as I played the whole game offline). I also spent a lot of the early game exploring and levelling up which helped to make tricky encounters more manageable. Now I'm trying to play Sekiro and the lack of spirit summons or really any ability to walk away from tricky sections to level up is making the game incredibly frustrating for me!
It deserved it, haven’t played it much on my to do list. But I can appreciate why it won.
Plus the salt and cope from Sony fans over it winning is crazy and hilarious. Makes up for the ranting they did over the FTC suing MS.
Still waiting for a sale , was hoping for little price cut for the game awards, maybe at the Boxing Day but someday I will buy it .Anyway my backlog is still way too big.
@BBB I am of the same opinion.
Fair winner. Thank god is not Stray LOL. It wouldn't be surprising a PS curio to be awarded unfairly while not even nominating Pentiment.
Not surprised at all. Elden Ring is a masterpiece. Nothing this year comes close. If I had to pick a second game, it would probably be The Quarry.
Such a great game. It has become my all time favorite. I know they released the new update but I was hoping for a new DLC reveal.
@Rafie @BBB I thought so too until I saw they're doing a new Armored Core and then I remembered that, oh yeah, From makes Armored Core lol. Armored Core 2 on PS2 is a game I remember fondly. Haven't played one since though.
I am still tempted by the idea of Elden Ring I just really really really disliked the janky ugly no story Dark Souls 1 & 2 games I tried several times each to understand why other people liked them. If it was $10 I would probably bite, to remind myself why I don't like FromSoftware games.
Elden Ring was a good game at best. Dont quite understand the whole "genre defining" nonsense. It had a giant quest marker like every other open world game.
I can understand why it won but I personally didn’t enjoy it as much as others seemed to.
Too many cut and paste dungeons and enemies, it got stale.
Elden Ring is amazing. I ended up getting all Achievements. What a grand adventure!
Never liked FromSoftwate to be honest. I find them incredibly boring. But I guess people like them. And it's not the difficulty. I enjoyed Nioh a lot and I plan on playing Wo Long. I guess it's the mininalistic story. And slow combat.
I’ve never liked Souls-like games and I definitely couldn’t get on with Elden Ring but surprisingly I have been enjoying Demon’s Souls on PS5 which shocked me considering it’s not my kind of game usually.
@Realist Huh? The quests were the most obscure I have ever played. Most of them you couldn't even find without a guide.
Gran Turismo 7 won driving game of the year too which surprised me. I do actually prefer it to Forza H 5, i love the realism but i thought more people preferred Forza so thought that would win.
@jordan1992
But Forza Horizon 5 launched last year, right?
