After a year-long wait, DICE's latest shooter in Battlefield 2042 hit Xbox Game Pass last month, coinciding with the game's third season of content. While that third season is still in full swing with more content to come, the team has also detailed some of what's arriving during Season 4, along with confirming Season 5 and the return of a classic Battlefield 4 map.
Anyway, let's start with the rest of Season 3. Here, DICE will be sticking to improving existing game content, with more map and specialist reworks inbound. With update 3.1 the team will be altering the 'Manifest' map bringing "a tighter playspace, improved visibility, cover and sightlines, and pathing between flags improved".
Then, with version 3.2, DICE is delivering its biggest map update yet with a brand-new version of 'Breakaway', bringing a "more focused playspace" across the board. 2042's 3.2 update will also re-introduce classes to Battlefield, by grouping the current specialist roster into more traditional Battlefield class types.
In early 2023, Season 4 will launch, adding the game's final specialist along with an extra brand-new map, which sounds like another more close-quarters affair than what 2042 delivered at launch.
"The map that will arrive [during Season 4] will be smaller, shorter, and linear designed for up close and personal, close-quarters combat that Battlefield is famous for."
Perhaps the biggest news tucked into this development update though, is that support for Battlefield 2042 will continue beyond Season 4, with Season 5 also on the way. The game's fifth season will take a slightly different approach, focusing on classic Battlefield content with a Battlefield 4 map remake - updated with "an overgrown area, engulfed with vegetation and by the 2042 war".
So, there's quite a lot to look forward to with the future of Battlefield 2042 on Xbox Game Pass! It's no secret that 2042 didn't deliver the smoothest launch, but plenty more changes and updates are still coming throughout 2023 and beyond.

Having played this game and with EA. Being one of the biggest competitors its true hardly anyone can match COD
Have bought the Ultimate Edition (damn me 1 year ago), so I'll be able to play first day. The game was really bad! Didn't stopped playing though.
But after S01 the game is constantly changing to better. Every new season (now we got the S03) it gets more attention from devs side. In it's current state it had to be released one year ago.
The reworked class system will give a bump to the players count, for sure. The promise and the roadmap for S04 and S05 is very good news. I hope they won't leave it like they did with BFV.
I've spent hundred of hours and really enjoying the game. The gunplay is fabulous, the graphics are insane!
What about the part of the game where I sit in a lobby by myself for 10 minutes before turning the game off? Even with cross play enabled?
Having a lot of fun with this game. Some battles I've had are so chaotic... surrounded by smoke, gunfire, the sound of overhead chain guns from the choppers, tanks reigning down shots... no other FPS is as immersive as Battlefield when it's at its best.
@XxEvilAshxX I don't know that part. Usually takes me less than 2 mins to get into any game mode.
But you can always go in the community server browser and pick out one with a good ping and player count.
Just to be clear, traditional classes aren't being brought back.
Each hero character is just being assigned one of the kits from the kit screen. And they still have all their hero abilities.
Finally tried the game again last weekend. Full disclaimer, I find Battlefield 4 the superior Battlefield entry for multiplayer and after playing 2042 after all the updates, still feel that way.
Main issue that jumped out at me is are their hacks or something? I would spawn and in 10 seconds or less be under fire and spawning again. I do understand that drones do spot players but this just felt really questionable and ruined all enjoyment in passing 2042.
@GuyinPA75 thats just battlefield in a nutshell. try to be careful with your spawning. make sure you know what you're getting into. its very easy to mark a player that the entire enemy team can see.
Isnt it always the case with battlefield games....everyone says they release crap but become decent YEARS later....
If mw2 hadn't just come out I would of given this another shot on gamepass
