CD Projekt RED isn't far from launching its The Witcher 3 Next-Gen Upgrade, but there's still a fair amount of Cyberpunk 2077 stuff ticking away in the background. The team is continuing its work on the futuristic RPG's expansion, Phantom Liberty, and sometime after that a Game of the Year Edition will launch.
As reported on by Polish site Stockwatch, CDPR CEO Adam Kiciński recently addressed investors about the future of the studio and what's in the team's pipeline. Kiciński says that a Cyberpunk 2077 GOTY edition is an "obvious" next step after the game's DLC launches.
"It's the natural order of things - it was the same with The Witcher, which after both expansions was finally released as a Game of the Year Edition and has been on the market that way ever since. The same can be expected in this case. It's quite obvious."
The studio CEO also gave a rough timeline for such a launch. We can expect to see a Cyberpunk 2077 GOTY Edition "just after" the Phantom Liberty update, which at present is on track for a 2023 release.
The Witcher 3 eventually saw two DLC expansions in 'Hearts of Stone' and 'Blood and Wine', however that doesn't appear to be the case for Cyberpunk 2077. For now, the team only has plans to launch one expansion for its 2020 open world RPG.
Will you be holding out for a CP77 GOTY edition? Let us know down below!

Always planned to buy the dlc....but not sure if I will now...to much time has passed and I'm just not that fussed anymore =
Really looking forward to the DLC but it's been so long since I've played it have forgotten the story and controls. Hopefully the DLC is set in space the best ending
Shame that they are only doing one expansion but suppose it makes more sense to start work on the sequel. Taken too long to fix a broken game that shouldn't have been released.
Great game, hopefully some people that were scared off will check it out now. I'm excited for the future of the francise.
GotY edition is certainly a stretch for Cyberpunk. I’d argue it’s maybe even more of a stretch than Far Cry 6 GotY edition was…
Hopefully they'll do a physical release.
@grumpypotato @somnambulance I said weeks before launch that I would wait for GOTY edition. But yes it should probably be called the "Complete Edition" lol
I was mocked, mostly people said I was poor. I waited for Witcher 3 GOTY, and it was pretty good, even though it took me several tries to get into it. Resist the FOMO.
Damn, should have waited.

I'm with you. buying games on Day One is for people who want to play through alphas/betas. There are very few games released that are worth playing on Day One.
I used to buy games on Day One because Best Buy would give $10 off for pre-ordering and the games were $50. Now games are $70, I can't find $10 off deals, and 90% of triple AAA games ship anywhere from 3-18 months before they are truly ready. Kind of sad how the industry is now.
I made the mistake of buying CyberPunk and CoD Cold War on day one. Since then, I have not bought a single Day One game. I am fortunate that I can buy Day One, but at the same time, my time is valuable, and I don't want to be fighting through a buggy or incomplete game. CyberPunk was a hot mess. CoD Cold War would freeze my console on the sniper mission. Both were a waste of time that I didn't have.
It was a game that released during a year, it does have that much going for it.
@CunningPig I got Cyberpunk for free at launch with Stadia thanks to a voucher. Having loved the Witcher 3, I expected a lot. Cyberpunk plays like a mid-tier Far Cry game inspired by Blade Runner though. It has the same issues for me. Point A to Point B quests, unlikeable characters, interesting open world with poor utilization of the environment, obnoxious story. Good luck with it. For me, forgetting about the technical issues, the game was still a 5/10 or 6/10 rank game at max for me.
@NeoRatt I felt a little burnt by Mass Effect Andromeda pre order, never again. It was at least playable though, just definitely not polished.
@grumpypotato As far as Elden Ring, I'll be tempted on discount in a couple years too. I really didn't like Dark Souls 1 or 2, but it does look pretty good and gets so much praise I'll admit I'm caving to public sentiment on that one getting me curious.
@Endarch GOAY edition lmao, I like that
@somnambulance I did the free trial they had a while back. I was not convinced by that, but I do love the setting. It looks great, but the combat really seemed bad to me. I didn't play it long enough to get out into the city much, or really get a feel for the quests. I wasn't completely turned off though. I will probably still get it eventually.
Just bought it last week at 50% off and enjoying it right now on series s .
@CunningPig
It is sad when something that was, "at least playable" we only feel burnt on. I am just completely jaded from new releases... I used to literally buy almost any significant new release on X360/PS3. Now, I just can't bring myself to buy any new release until there is 50 reviews over 85% on Metacritic. Forza Horizon 5, God of War Ragnarok, Elden Ring are games I all bought within a month of release to reward devts not totelly screwing up. But, CyberPunk, CoD Cold War, Halo Infinite, Sea of Thieves, Callisto Protocol, DriveClub, Battlefield 2042, etc. etc. If I had a buck for every game that released from "at least playable" to "completely a mess" I would be really rich!
