Yep, it's one of these stories again! Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has pushed out its latest update today (1.08), and Xbox fans are finding that it's in the region of 40-50GB, whereas it's less than 1GB on PlayStation and PC.
Although full patch notes haven't been provided yet at the time of writing, it seems this update is purely focused on fixing bugs, exploits and a specific issue related to Profile Showcases, with no major new features added to the game.
(Update: The full patch notes are now live!)
"We've recently released an update that fixed an issue that prevented players from editing their Profile Showcase, additionally we've also fixed various map exploits and bugs across the game."
So, what's going on with the ridiculously large update size on Xbox?! Well, we've seen instances of this in the past where Xbox suffered a much bigger download then PlayStation, with 2019's Modern Warfare issuing an update that was 65GB bigger than PlayStation back in 2020 - although interestingly, that later turned out to be an "unforseen bug".
Watch Dogs: Legion was another game that fell prey to this a couple of times, with the Xbox versions seemingly being required to re-download parts of the game all over again, even when just a few fixes had been applied in the patch.
We'll let you know if we hear anything more specific on this, but at least for the time being, we're unfortunately stuck with a pretty major download size for this latest Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 update.
