There's big news coming out of Electronic Arts today with the company announcing it's committing to a "long-term deal" with comicbook giant Marvel (known for Spider-Man, X-Men and more) to develop "at least three" brand new action-adventure games.
These games will be available for both "consoles and PC", and each will have an original story set within the Marvel universe. Here's what EA's COO Laura Miele had to say about this new partnership:
“We have been long-time fans of Marvel and their impressive leadership, so this is a remarkable moment for our developers as well as our players and fans. We look forward to welcoming Marvel into the EA family of creators and know this collaboration will produce exceptional experiences for our players. We can’t wait to see players' reactions when they suit up as Iron Man and do the extraordinary things this Super Hero is known for.”
The first title by Motive Studio is going to be a single-player, third-person Iron Man game, as previously announced in September. It will be led by Olivier Proulx - who worked as a senior producer on Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy game for Square Enix.

These marvel licences are clearly up for grabs…you’d think with the success Sony has seen with acquiring the spiderman licence and now wolverine MS would wake up and secure their own marvel exclusive…but nope. Sometimes it blows my mind how Xbox seemingly drop the ball on things from the outside looking in seem like no-brainer…like say, keeping hold of the cod marketing contract.
Clearly way smarter people than myself work at Xbox
I for some odd reason thought Sony had the lock on the Iron Man IP for some PSVR2 game…. Did I hallucinate that?
If I didn’t imagine it, I guess it means the way Disney is handling their licensing means no IP is exclusively locked, period? As in, EA could also make their own Wolverine game?
Would be smart for Xbox to grab a X-men game. Microsoft at it’s heart loves co-op and online. It would be easy to see a Marvel game with 2-4 X-men in a local and online co-op. Sure Microsoft has stated they need more single player games and i don’t doubt they have some in the pipeline to cure that gap with Nintendo and Sony. But again in my mind they love to push online and playing with friends and to me X-men just have that vibe. Could be really fun if done right.
@Tharsman I thought Meta bought that VR dev and the game has a release planned (or released already) on the Meta Quest 2?
When reading about the Iron Man IP I immediately thought about Anthem. They can use stuff but need to bring their A game …
Rocksteady needs to make all the superhero games in the same way they make/made the Batman/Gotham Knights games. Single player only, story related, collectibles and puzzles to find, 3rd person view. These are some of my favorite games of all times and i am having a blast playing Gotham Knights.
EA doesn’t fill me with confidence. If it was Insomniac then i’d be intrigued.
@Tharsman they could but it’d prob not be a good idea. It would undoubtedly be compared to Insomniac’s game and Insomniac are masters at this kind of game.
Pretty sure EA will do just as good with this as they did the Star Wars license.
Spoiler alert. Not good.
A new Punisher game would be good. Daredevil could be another. I'd even take Bwana Beast lol. 1000's of characters to choose from. I like most of the current one's , but it would be great to get something out of the blue.
Played Ultimate Alliance 3 on switch. Shame we didn't get that. It's good fun if your a fan of those games.
