EA has confirmed today that its Motive Studio has begun work on a brand-new Iron Man game!
The project is currently in "early development" at the EA studio, and is being led by Olivier Proulx who previously worked as Senior Producer on Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy for Square Enix.
"Developed in collaboration with Marvel Games, the game will feature an original narrative that taps into the rich history of Iron Man, channeling the complexity, charisma, and creative genius of Tony Stark, and enabling players to feel what it’s like to truly play as Iron Man."
EA has promised to share more updates as the game gets further along in development, and has teased this "exciting new collaboration" with Marvel will expand to several new games beyond Iron Man.
Here's what Executive Producer Olivier Proulx had to say about being part of the project:
“It’s an honor and privilege to have the opportunity to make a video game based on one of the most iconic Super Heroes in entertainment today. We have a great opportunity to create a new and unique story that we can call our own. Marvel is encouraging us to create something fresh. We have a lot of freedom, which is so engaging for the team.”
Looking forward to a new single-player Iron Man adventure? Let us know in the comments below.

While it's easy to be negative because it's EA, Motive being the developers of this actually leaves me feeling rather optimistic. Battlefront II (once the MTX were removed) was a great game, Star Wars: Squadrons was a well-priced and well-reviewed game that was supported with free post-launch content, and Dead Space Remake is looking good so far. The transparency from the devs on the project is refreshing.
Honestly, this could be realllly good if they're just left to get on with it and there isn't too interference from either EA or Marvel.
Interesting. Always happy to see single-player focused Marvel games coming around!
I always thought it would be funny if Microsoft did an exclusive Deadpool game (with Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool).
I could just see the trailer now:
Shows a scene with bad guys being wrapped up in webs.
Words on the screen "Marvel's greatest hero finally comes to Xbox"
Continues to see bad guys getting beat up and wrapped up in webs. Panning ends with Deadpool playing with web-shooting toy Spider-man gloves. Then Deadpool says something about not being who everyone expecting and blasting Spider-Man and Sony in some way.
Cue montage of Deadpool hacking, slashing, and making jokes about literally every pop culture IP under the sun.
Boom. Instant classic.
Great news really.
Only speaking for myself (obviously) but I wish games weren't announced this early on.
I'm assuming that being excited and following this game's development will include years of:
A "staff shake-up" or two
A year (or multiple years) of radio silence
A "new direction" in a couple of years
A few "no-shows" at various industry trade shows.
Maybe I need to not allow my excitement for Metroid Prime 4 inform my overall cynicism. That was announced in June, 2017. Different console, different company, so yeah it's a "me problem." Lol.
Meh. Wasn't that what Anthem was suppose to be? I wish we had more serious protagonists. Iron man will be the typical quippy, sarcastic, joking hero we see in every other game now a days.
Single player EA games are typically better and less exploitative than their multiplayer games, so this might have some promise.
@GhanaViking I know Anthem was a bust but playing through it with a friend we both said the controls were awesome and would convert great into a Iron Man game. We even thought Iron Man and War Machine would make for a great co op experience.
@SacredPYRO just talked with a buddy of mine about the exact same thing. If they'd just re-use the assets, spice it up with some story and create a new world I'd dig it.
Just don't know how much I would like to fly around with Iron Man in a game.
Spider-Man was fun and all but Iron Man has some godlike armor you wouldn't really use or even bother with street thugs.
Wait, I just realized that motive were the ones doing Star Wars Squadrons. Could this be an Iron Man flight simulator in a similar vain?
Like the airplane scene in the original Iron Man mixed with Ace Combat
I really enjoyed the iron man games on the 360.
