If you've been in the market for a Seagate Expansion Card for your Xbox Series X or Xbox Series S, now might be the time! Over at Amazon UK, the retailer is offering a great discount for each of the 512GB, 1TB and 2TB versions.
Firstly, the 512GB version has been reduced from a RRP of £159.99 down to £85.59. The standard 1TB version is down from £254.99 to £182.16, and the premium 2TB version has been dropped from £474.99 to £266.64.

Amazon says the deals for the 512GB and 2TB variants will remain active for the next week, or until stock runs out.
If you're still not sure why you would need one of these cards, they essentially act the same way as your internal storage on Xbox Series X and Series S, offering super-fast load times compared to a standard external hard drive. Plus, the majority of games that have been "Optimised for Xbox Series X|S" can only be played off your console's internal drive or one of these Seagate Expansion Cards.
Here's what we had to say in our review of the 1TB version a couple of years ago:
Have you bought one of these yet? Happy with yours? Let us know in the comments below.

The 1tb is usually only 185 at its normal discount price. So Amazon are kinda misleading us with there "new" discount.
Still a bit pricey for my tastes, I wish they had allowed competition for these cards, as there's no doubt you'd get cheaper options.
I should look to get one though, so much goodness on gp its hard to contain on the machines memory 😂
Just ordered a 2TB card from the link above - I already have a 1TB and a 5TB HDD and couldn't resist that price for 'doubling' my Series X game storage capacity
I was very tempted by the 512GB when an Amazon notification popped up on my phone this morning. But I'll stick with my 1TB USB SSD + 5TB USB HDD combo and move games as I need them. It goes against my otherwise impatient nature but the price per GB is easier to swallow and I can repurpose both devices as general purpose storage when expansion cards get cheaper.
These deals do make me wonder if Seagate's exclusivity deal is due to expire soon given it's been almost 2 years since launch. More manufacturers producing expansion cards might help push the prices down although I doubt it.
Even discounted they are still insanely expensive.
That's amazing for 2TB, @BAMozzy
I've been following it and I was close to buying it when it was recently discounted to £350.
I've just nabbed it at the £266 price, split over 5 months at just over £50 a month. Makes it much more manageable. I have almost paid off a new MacBook Pro m1 pro too split over 12 months. A few more months to go at the rate I'm paying back.
Anyway... I already have the 1TB card. Now I can hot swap em and stop having to copy between my two 5TB HDDs and the internal 1tb and the 1tb SSD. At least it minimises the issue and gives me more storage.
Again, this is a huge discount and like I did with the 1TB micro storage card for my switch, my MacBook Pro and 5TB HDDs and some semi decent headphones...I'm happy to pay it off over time at 0% interest and no credit check. Thanks Amazon!
@Tangerine £133.32 per TB without needing to worry about 'heatsinks' and the ability to swap instantly without needing to unplug and dismantle my console is a 'great' deal right now. Its much quicker to swap an Expansion card than to 'move' games from an SSD over USB let alone from a HDD. I like being able to access any game I own without having to redownload, reinstall or wait to transfer it to the SSD.
Each to their own of course...
I got 1TB with Rewards points. Might Upgrade to 2tb in the far future.
I know its a long time away but I do hope the Expansion cards work with the next generation
For all Microsoft's pro-consumer initiatives of late, this insistence on official proprietary cards is distinctly anti-consumer. There's no reason why they can't open this out to other SSD manufacturers and allow competition to drive prices down. Even on sale these cards are horrendously overpriced.
If 2TB was at this price back at launch I would've considered getting it but 2 years later it feels like the Xbox lineup isn't interesting enough to justify any expansion card.
Had to bite at that price for the 2TB. Hopefully this time I get 2TB. Last time I ordered from elsewhere I had to return as the box said 2TB but someone had resealed it and it had a 1TB inside which was a headache to deal with customer services to sort.
Not sure if it’s just the south east of England but it’s 7 day delivery… I can get it from Argos the same day. What happened to Amazon same day delivery?
Still unjustifiably expensive. I'd rather shuffle my games around a bit than essentially drop a Series S price on an expansion card.
im quite happy with a 5tb external usb drive £90
@BAMozzy
Totally agree a game console in 2022 that needs to be opened up to expand memory is inadequate customer care.
This must be the same company that have put their console in stock this week, but only available as bundle with FIFA 23, forcing you to spend more money £60 on a digital game you might not want, just so you can get the console. As there is no console solo stock.
I hope one day they are taught a lesson with their terrible customer service levels since the consoles release. The reason I want them about now is to keep pushing Microsoft to be better from a competitive point of few.
From what I see, the cost per TB is 'reasonable' considering you don't need a Heatsink - which ideally you do for Sony PS5 so comparing prices to Expanding Sony's PS5 with a 'reputable' and equivalent option inc Heatsink and you'll see that the costs are pretty much on par. There are some 'cheaper' options as well as more expensive options but perhaps doesn't have the usability of the Expansion slot.
In theory, you can expand a Series X indefinitely, just buy more cards and swap them out - like you used to do with 'memory' cards for game saves. It means I could take my Expansion card to my Sons house and plug it in to his Series console to play 'my' games without having to wait to install via download - easier than taking a Console or USB external and have to transfer to internal SSD to play.
Each has its 'Pros and Cons' - Sony is allowing you to buy any and install - although won't give you any warranty if it screws up your console which it could if you buy the cheapest without any heatsink. That does give you more choice and can find cheaper options. Xbox may well be Proprietary and limited to just 1 manufacturer at the moment, but is warrantied and designed specifically for that hardware, including cooling requirements. Its just plug and play with no tools required, no unplugging/dismantling of hardware, can be removed,/replaced with the console switched on and can give 'unlimited' Storage capacity. Want/need 10TB's of SSD storage to be able to access ALL your library anytime instantly with ease, you can with Expansion cards.
With Game Pass too, I don't want to have to try and juggle my internal storage capacity to 'download' a game or two or delete/move games that I intend to return to at some point in the future after getting sidetracked by newer games on GP. I don't want to be 'limited' to just a handful of my games or have to wait hours to move a game to resume playing...
As I said, pros and cons, £133.32 per SSD storage that is compatible with 'next gen' hardware is extremely reasonable in the current market regardless of whether you on PS5 or Series hardware.
Like I said, each to their own and I appreciate that being able to store and play 'more' games with 'ease' is not worth the cost to some people and for others, its important. Some are happy to keep a small selection of their games accessible instantly and 'prepared' to spend 'hours' moving, reinstalling, re-updating etc etc should they decide to play an 'older' game than spend money to make sure they can play any game they own as and when they want.
No thanks still to pricey for me when I'm quite content to delete games to make room if needs be
Didn't even need to think for this
At the moment I'm fine juggling between internal and external storage.
That being said games are getting more and more "meaty" and I do see myself needing more in the future.
Even on sale it's extortionate. The cost of these is completely unjustifiable and how anyone could buy one with a straight face is beyond me. Seagate and Microsoft are straight up robbing people with these.
I got the 1tb at £150 ages ago and pleased I did
@Grumblevolcano i find myself playing older games on my xbox. Rare replay sonic adventure. Mcc etc
I would bet the sale is happening because the deal is expiring and we'll see them open the door for other manufacturers starting in Nov, at the 2 yr mark. They said at launch this would be the only option "for now". I always understood that to mean they had an agreement similar to timed exclusivity on games and that other parties would have a chance when that deal expired.
@BAMozzy all this. In many ways it was the right choice
@CourtneyDL microsoft did say that more comapanies would make them in the future.... so maybe and hopefully we will see other companies get in out in and force that price down some... sandisk and samsung both come to mind....personally to those that wish they went with the ps5 style memory expansion, all i can say is if your a parent you should thank MS for one reason, you dont have to worry bout compatibility and installing.... just buy pop in you cant F it up... ive seen parents trying to buy the expansion for a ps5 at Bestbuy(where i work for extra cash party time) its always funny cause they have no clue but the ones that come in for series x/s memory almost always just say expansion memory for the new xbox.... its just easier on almost everyone except the wallet or purse...
Really need one of these as we can really only keep 3 or so games on our S at this point, but man they're expensive. Hopefully we get a sizable holiday discount in the states
@Blessed_Koz I think I let my cynical side out because the expansion cards will likely always be a licensed accessory and that combined with their almost proprietary nature will probably mean inflated prices even when opened up to other manufacturers. I really hope I'm wrong though.
I fall into the camp who want support for a DIY PS5 style solution. An NVMe to expansion card slot adaptor from someone like Seagate or Sabrent would be cool. I don't see it happening due to the lack of ease and MS having to open the firmware up to wild west that is SSDs.
Damn, wish I wasn't broke AF otherwise I'd be up to my eyeballs in 2tbs
Thanks for posting this article.
I purchased the 2TB one and used the monthly payment option, nice little deal from Amazon.
Next consideration, do I sell a 1TB card or keep it for archiving older games that won't be updated?
Tempted by the 512. Costs only slightly more than a Playstation game. I don’t want too much installed as then I never concentrate on one game; but could do with just a little bit more space so the 512 seems ideal.
The 512MB and 2TB are heavily discounted. But the 1TB is not even the cheapest price in the last 3 months on Amazon. see camel camel camel
Already have a1tb one, tempted to get a 512 one just for Flight Sim but think I'll wait.
@Tangerine Nice. I too love when Amazon offers that 0% BNPL option. 👍
This is probably a daft question, but is it possible to have two expansion cards in at the same time? I'm wondering whether there is a splitter of some sort?
